I never got the appeal either. Was it the porn thing?
On the other hand, Sharmell's prett meh for me. The queen gimmick wasn't really geared into making her sexy.

The appeal may have been the fact that she once kicked Bill Alfonso's ass all over the ECW Arena and caused him to lose like 20% of the blood in his body. Or that she wasn't afraid to take a bump all out. I can appreicate those things, but they mean nothing to me in a contest such as this.

Beulah had an amazing impact on my formative years. And while women like Dawn Marie and Francine were exposed to me as skanky years later and a woman like Lita fell on my esteem list Beulah has always stayed up there. And its not the porn thing, because I honestly kind of get annoyed when the mystique is gone and like most porn mags and videos I don't find Beulah at her best in her porn. Part of it is probably the character, the fact that she killed Fonzie, and even that she was probably part of one of my first exposures to hot lesbianism outside of porn. And kinky candle stuff. She was just kinky and bad ass and it was so hot to my young mind. Still is.

I wish I could find that ECW Beulah video they used to do because it remains a stopper for me today. I know I watched it on YouTube back when Dreamer was alive in the Wrestler Showdown but I can't find it now.

That's actually not the one I was thinking of. I'm thinking of the on where she's slinking around in the gym prior to her Fonzie match to some song like "I'll Die For You." But "Heart Shaped Box" is a reasonable example of what impact the woman had on a 15-year-old.



You know what I have to find? One of the Raven vs Dreamer matches just after she joins Tommy has her performing a little lapdance for Tommy in the corner to taunt Raven. I watched in last year or so and it floored me. I think I still have that, just gotta find it.

I suspect that Beulah may not have the same impact on you if you don't think Dreamer/Raven was possibly the greatest feud in wrestling history and that she was so insanely important to it. Go to 1:50 in that video and see Dreamer desperately pull her from danger and cover her up as he appears to be ready to cry over how scared he is for his girl and his unborn child. That clip got an emotional response from me just now because I just care about Beulah and Dreamer that much.

To that end I suspect that Beulah is to people who came up on '90s ECW like Liz is to people who came up on '80s WWE. And I'll never really "get" the Liz thing because I never made that connection and they'll never get the Beulah thing because they never made the connection.

I was never a huge ECW fan, but just from youtube and posting with you guys, I understand her role and damn it if I didn't find her nice to look at in these two videos, but Sharmell barely beats her out for me, because as Queen Sharmell, she seemed to be the only Diva that could pull off the same hotness Mickie or Victoria could in jeans, but in an evening gown. And real gowns too, not three strips of cloth held together by tape so that Maria could rip it off and expose undergarments less revealing than average ring attire.

Yeah, Sharmell wins, but wow, I have a new appreciation for how good Beulah looks/looked.
