I thought this episode was a ton of fun. There weren't any classic matches or anything, but just about every segment had me smiling. The last match seemed like a good way to end the show, and I was really doubting that an announcement could top that, but then
The sports entertainment main event worked, because it still had a clean finish before things broke down. I like that the Knockouts had such a focus, even giving The Beautiful People vs. ODB & Gal Kim a segment to set it up and a segment for the match. I thought those segments were well done. I really wonder who's getting shaved at the PPV.
I love the Petey Pump gimmick more and more every week.
I'm surprised Cheerleader Melissa was allowed to use the Kudoh Driver, since the Cop Killa is Homicide's version. On that note, I enjoyed the LAX-Hector Guerrero segment. It really put LAX on the main event level when it comes to the tag title scene.
AJ Styles continues to be gold. Every segment he had was pure brilliance.
Having read the spoilers, I knew of the Kong announcement. But I still marked out myself. It's a great dynamic being thrown into the Deuces Wild gimmick, and it should make for some great interactions in the tournament. I fully expect at least one Egotistical Eight team to be a legit team (Roode/Storm, maybe?).
This weeks impact was great, Joe, AJ, Petey, LAX, the knockouts, The guns, everyone really seemed on their game. I also love how there are multiple characters getting ready for turns (Booker, AJ, Nash) yet they are taking their time, and it all seems logical.
Plus Scott Steiner and his awesome math abilities made that show for me.
Sting: "After a while, that's what this business does to you. You just don't know who you can trust, or who you can't."
LOL. After 20 years, Sting has finally come to this conclusion!
I really loved LAX and Hector, and the way the AJ/Super Eric thing came full circle.
And Kong will soon be playing in the Tag division, which I've been itching for since that one time she and Hernandez got nose-to-nose, so I'm pretty excited about that. But I may have mentioned that already.
Any speculation on where they're going with the whole Cheerleader Melissa thing? I mean, she shows up and wrestles, and then shows up as Shaeed at the end of the show.
Although I can smell a "become friends with Gail and then screw her over" storyline coming...
Only saw the good main event tag match and the Cornette thing at the end with the 8 for the tag tournament.
I have many issues with what they're doing with Chyna V-2, but I'll keep them to myself until I actually see what the result is. Only qualm I will state....if they're going down this road...please no Playboy (or whatever the D-level nudie mag is)!
Read the rest of the results (btw, TNA should be better about leaving their results page up longer, or at least making it somewhere obvious on the main page, because after wasting 5 minutes looking for it, I had to go to the torch to read their incredibly anti-TNA biased recap)...
I can pretty much agree with the previous popular opinion that Traci Brooks will be losing her hair. She seems to be the one person outside of the beautiful people making any sort of noise about the match. When thinking about this, I figure whoever agreed to get shaved is also going to be promised a push or title shot or whatever in real life, so Traci would probably make the list of people that could fit into that Criteria.
I like the fact that while they're making the big excitement over Kong being in the tag tourney, they're still making interesting stories that could make you think that most of the other teams could have a chance at winning. The AJ/Eric stuff (even if this means AJ went from playing with Tomko and Angle to lowly Eric in a 2 week span), and the LAX stuff (with Hector) give them just as good reasons to wind up champions.
I guess they've now shown what that cage match will look like. I've known for a few weeks, but I didn't want to say anything not knowing if it were spoiler or not. But I guess from the video you can already see what it's supposed to look like. If anyone wants to see a preview of it, its the exact same thing as AAA has used for one of their big events, TripleMania, and many highlight videos of it are on youtube. Looked kinda crazy...also looks totally ripped off. With X guys, that match should be sick. Too bad its now about the 8th gimmick match on the card.

How would you know since you admittedly don't watch Impact that much?
Ok ass, it's not like TNA would be the only company in the history of wrestling to have a women that is popular pose in a nudie mag... Plus, Kong isn't exactly a "mainstream" beauty so the chance of her in Clun Magazine is pretty slim. There's trim way more in line then Kong, so you can stop worring
And, not sure where you are getting your "popular opinion" but ODB has been the odd's on favorite for the head shaving since it's been announced.
The Terror Dome does look cool, and lord knows there's so many original ideas in wrestling. Your precious WWE is chock full of them, aren't they?
It would amuse me if next year Byrne did a women's fed or Texas fed. I'd just like to see how he tries to make it a dark, demonic, ECW homage led by James Mitchell or Raven. -- Lucky, 2009
see. i told you byrne was the way to go here. like i said, he's a big dork. -- Ziggy, 2009
I mean, I agree with most of your basic points (looking forward to Kong fighting guys, have no idea whose head's getting shaved, don't care if the terror-dome is a Mexican import) but jetskids comments were really pretty balanced and not knee-jerk TNA hate....
Or was that a parody of knee-jerk defensive TNA wank?
Wow, someone actually saw me trying to have a balanced talk about TNA for once...thanks Serg.
DXB, I've pretty much taped every impact over the past month or two...this week I just forgot to tape it twice. Saw the last 20 minutes or so and read the rest, so I'm still keeping up. So I'm pretty in it at this point, I'm just coming from a different direction than the normal wank that is I guess your side.
Either way, I don't really care. Even if I did have something negative to say, its not like I don't deal with the negative comments in any of the WWE threads from all the TNA wanks, while I'm being the WWE wank, as I know I am.
So really, if the WWE guys deal with 1,000 boring, crappy, etc comments, you can deal with comments from a WWE guy...especially if they were largely positive things said.
As far as popular opinion...as I stated, I had to read the torch recap, and that was whoever does that one's opinion. As well, during a few of the chats last week, a number of people thought Brooks was going to be the one...so that's where I got it from. And MY OPINION is that it looks like it very well could be her too.
Yes, I had a problem with too many gimmicks. I also said I thought it would be a great match nonetheless. No, WWE hasn't had a million great ideas recently, but it also doesn't mean I want them to throw out an Ultimate X match or something, just because it would be cool. Either way, if TNA fans have no problem with it, then whatever. It's just an opinion that they could have saved it on a jam packed ppv anyway.
And the nudie mag stuff...a joke. So I won't bother.
RAW tonight - a Lumberjack Match for no reason whatsoever, a 2 on 1 match against a jobber for no reason whatsoever and a 14 on 2 match for no reason whatsoever, their second XX on 2 Match in a little over a month.

So you just copy and paste from there usually, huh?

WWE could NEVER overdo gimmicks.
I don't know why no ones getting this. I'm not comparing the two at all. I said I wouldn't want it to be overdone in WWE, and I believed it was getting overdone on TNA. I never said WWE doesn't do it. Not every assessment of things that happened have to be comparisons from one company to another, but the other company can be brought up when making a point.
Wow, I read Jetskid's post and saw a balanced post by someone who had some reservations about where TNA could go. Suddenly the flames begin.
I really don't get the whole US vs THEM mentality. Just because you like WWE, does that mean you need to hate TNA? WTF? I'm a die-hard WWE fan, and yet I stopped watching WWE a year ago. Why? Because the show is shit. Am I still a fan? Hell yes. If the Fed suddenly got better, I'd watch in a heartbeat.
For now I really like TNA. If the WWE suddenly became entertaining again next week, would I watch both? You bet I would. I know I'm probably preaching to the choir, but I read Jetskid's post like he was a wrestling FAN who had some doubts. Not sure where the flaming came from...
1) I think Skid's post was quite fair. Didn't agree with all of it. There were a few of those snipes that Skids throws at TNA. But overall it in no way was something that seemed worthy of the response. DXB overreacted.
2) I don't think Tommy's post was TRULY directed towards you, Skids. We were joking around in Chat last night about how many gimmick matches were on RAW and how if we look around the web we bet that the places that usually complain about how over gimmicked every TNA show is wouldn't have a bad word to say about this. Especially when we were sitting there realizing that there had actually been quite a few gimmick matches on RAW in recent memory. For me at least this was me complaining about other places on the web where people rant about how TNA is the worst company in the history of wrestling and that they can't do anything right, but that its a shame that the "Era of Orton" has ended.
TNA hate is STRONG on the web. I read Something Awful, The Smart Marks, and other boards and they HATE it. Like worst thing ever hate. Can't do anything right hate. Only a fucking retard could possibly enjoy this hate. And TSM is a board that I've read for years and the WWE marks and TNA haters have taken such a stranglehold that the more balanced posters have abandoned an effort to "reclaim" the wrestling forums and "save" them because its just hopeless. They've chosen to abandon the forum to the idiots. So for me I'm often reading THOSE things and thinking of THOSE things when I read stuff. And I know at least Dev reads some of this same stuff because he and I used to joke about how it seemed like the TNA that OO/Puns watched each week couldn't possibly be the same TNA that everyone else on the web was watching each week.
SOMETIMES some of my reaction to these guys comes out in my comments to Rick or Skids. Sometimes the two of them do seem to be saying some of these things (either out of serious opinion or just looking for a reaction). But when I was talking about that with Tommy I wasn't thinking of Skids really. He has complained about the gimmicks and obviously took a swipe at them in that post... but its more of a general thing. TNA overuses gimmicks. We all agree. Some of us think they get TOO much shit for it and that the WWE gets a LOT of slack from many of the same critics.
And there is this internet wide "US vs THEM" thing. It comes from both sides. Many TNA fans are disgruntled WWE fans who are pissed that WWE stopped entertaining them and went somewhere else. Lots of WWE fans seem to actively want TNA to fail because WWE is king and should always be. ROH fans often hate TNA too. I have spent YEARS on the web as a TNA fan and its only in the last 18 months or so that I stopped being some sort of freak with no allies. ROH fans hated "my company" and wanted it to die. WWE fans hated it and wanted it to die. They all agreed I was stupid for watching it. And I started to remember how I was considered an idiot on the web for liking WCW too. Wrestling fans are strangely territorial and don't actually seem to believe that you can like WRESTLING and not just a company.
Which is kind of where me and Skids warred at first and where we built each other's reps too each other. Skids showed up at a place that he thought was unfairly negative to WWE and filled with TNA wankers. And he fought back and lashed out. And I was a guy who remembered that only months before Skids showed up that OO was still very hostile towards TNA with an owner who hated it and trashed it and a number of posters who took every chance to attack it, and I saw someone whose purpose on OO seemed to be to tell us why WWE is better than TNA. So I became the other side of Skids' coin. This is, for whatever reason, the nature of wrestling fans and it pops up. We're sports fans who can't admit that your team is great because somehow that threatens the idea that our team is great.
Or don't do either. If you can't find an image you like at either than don't force it. Just give me something you like and which will look good on the board.
1) Wrestling fans are strangely territorial and don't actually seem to believe that you can like WRESTLING and not just a company.
EXALT for the truth.
I am a wrestling fan. Sure, I'm a TNA wanker and an ROH mark. As a kid I preferred the NWA over the WWE. But at the end of the day, I'd pick going to WrestleMania over going to any other show, even ROH in NYC. In wrestling, it doesn't get any better than that.
But seriously, can't we all just get along, and like wrestling for what it is (like fake fighting with oiled up men essentially dancing with each other and plasticized women doing next to nothing...except in TNA, where they also dance with each other).
Honestly, I'm pretty shocked when I hear things like "WWE fans ROH to die, ROH fanswants TNA to die", etc. I can't imagine how losing competing companies is good for business. For one, if TNA went down, that would just mean that wrestling has fallen so low that more than one major company cannot be supported; that would be tragic.
The one instance that I could think of where WWE fans would want another company to die is WCW at its peak. This was a point where it was actually concievable that the WWE(F) could be destroyed completely. So the anger of that I can see. But nowadays, WWE is so entrenched, without the perfect storm competitor with hot angles AND a neverending bankroll that could deliver a finishing blow like WCW may have been able to. Yes, TNA and ROH can become competition, but if WWE is never in trouble, I can't imagine how "WRESTLING" fans could not want to see other companies succeed at once.
Everyone knows competition breeds better ideas and one-upsmanship, which is almost what wrestling is built on. Companies picking each other's wresltlers helps to maximize potentials of wrestlers that may not be used correctly where they are, it gives more power to the wrestlers to choose where they can make money, etc.
And I guess that's why I'm not understanding why people can't understand how a through and through WWE fan can watch/enjoy/want to see TNA succeed. It's not like the WWE disappears if TNA gets bigger, so I don't see it as something that "if they win, I lose", and hell, if TNA is better, bigger, and extremely enjoyable to all, then how is that bad for a wrestling fan? I don't see wrestling as a sport where you have to pick one team. Many people do, but its like like your stuck to one thing, and one thing only for your life. Hell, I don't like them, but I can sit and enjoy a Cubs/Cardinals game.
Everyone doesn't know that competition breeds quality. In fact I'd argue that a majority of people just firmly believe in the strength of their side. Its like sports fans. THEIR team is what matters. And most sports fans couldn't give a shit about other teams and don't want to see anyone get anything but their own. I don't know why it extends to wrestling. Its just something that people develop. Go to other boards and see people post "TNgAy sucks and isn't even half as good as WWE is." It just is how people behave towards this stuff.
On the flip side ROH and TNA fans are often guys who jumped on the ship early and feel a loyalty to the company. Or as I said before disgruntled WWE fans who have turned against the company and towards an alternative. ROH and TNA fans warred for awhile because ROH fans felt TNA was directly hurting them and a vastly inferior product that shouldn't be supported.
And quite frankly I can direct you to posts on other boards where people explain to me that they WANT TNA to die because its a piece of shit that is only making wrestling worse. That supporting such a pathetic company can only lead to worse things and keep the good from surfacing. And those are the "smart" fans. Many WWE fans simply don't care. WWE is wrestling. Period. End of story. This bush league bullshit copiers are worthless. These WWE rejects and no talent indie wrestlers aren't worth watching. If they were worth a damn they'd be in WWE. If WWE couldn't do anything with them its because they couldn't cut it. TNA can't use a talent better. TNA is worthless. If the talent didn't work in WWE they simply weren't a talent. Period, end of story. Don't believe me? Check the ratings. The PPV numbers. Does TNA do MSG? Duh, that's your story. WWE > TNA, end of story. TNA isn't worth the time.
Now why YOU get jumped on? Because you admit to having been hyper sensitive about WWE when you first showed up at OO and going out of your way to "balance" the TNA wankery. Its the impression you left. Wasn't your first post at OO telling me and others to just stop commenting on RAW if we had negative things to say about it? First impressions are tough to shake. And even when you and I have mellowed and have a better understanding you do sort of encourage the rep by taking potshots for fun.
But DXB's post was an overreaction, no argument from me.
Or don't do either. If you can't find an image you like at either than don't force it. Just give me something you like and which will look good on the board.
Although the only thing I would say is that I find it amusing, or a better word, that people get so shook up over little potshots when you cant go 5 posts without a WWE potshot in any thread. So I don't know when I make one or two in a largely positive post that it winds up becoming horrible. Especially since this time, I don't even think I conciously did it, although I barely remember things I've done 24 hours later.
Well everyone seems to agree that DXB overreacted and you didn't deserve that.
As for why your potshots sometimes irk me? Probably because they sometimes seem crafted to get a reaction. Or because they reflect a basic overreaction that the internet at large is having towards TNA and has been annoying me. But I react to that stuff with WWE too like insisting that people were being silly killing Adamle after his 1st week.
Or don't do either. If you can't find an image you like at either than don't force it. Just give me something you like and which will look good on the board.
