I found a weekly 3 hour AAA show on Galavision a few weeks ago and have watched it every weekend since. I gotta say im loving AAA. The ring work is fun (although a little sloppy sometimes).
I'm becoming a fan of the current Word Heavyweight Champ Cibernetico who I vaguelly remmeber a from a brief run in WWE like 10 yrs ago. I'm even a little impressed by (Judas) El Mesias who did nothing for me while in TNA. They even had a match this week with Teddy Hart & Jack Evans and hey, LA PARKA.
My problem is that I don't speak any Spanish and while I've picked up a little bit of the history from some of the matches (like El Mesias won a tournament for the first (?) AAA World Heavweight Championship & lost it to Cibernetico a little over a month ago)
I'm just curious if anyone else watches AAA and can fill me in a little bit on what's going on. Thanks.

Well, this is what I have pieced together from youtube videos and some English websites. Admittedly, I don't really like lucha. I like the lucha style is adapted to the American style, but pure lucha is really weird and so theatrical. The storylines from AAA, however are top notch and are easily the best in the world now.
So basically what is going down is Cibernetico was leading a heel stable called The Sect of Cibernetico with Charly Manson and Chessman. The usual strange satanic cult stable that rocks when done right. He lost a mask vs mask match against La Parka Jr (The real La Parka wrestles as LA PARK in CMLL). So he brought in Muerte Cibernetico (Dead Cibernetico), who in turn lost his mask to La Parka Jr and was revealed to be Mesias. Cibernetico ended up getting injured and Mesias turfed his invalid ass. The Sect of Mesias consists of Mesias and his henchmen (Dark Ozz, Dark Curveo, and Espirtu). Cibernetico returned at Triplemania with his boys, Charly Manson and Chessman together forming the Hell Brothers and they were out for blood.
While all this is going on, the Konnan-led Foreign Legion is kicking ass and taking names with such luminaries as (Kenzo, X-Pac, Scott Hall, Sabu, Killings, and Headhunters). They are the true heels of AAA as La Secta has become more like the cool badass heels. As the Hell Brothers have increasingly more focused on them. In February the Foreign Legion destroyed La Secta and Mesias. I don't know if he has returned. On the wall, in the back you see La Parka Jr and Mesias's names crossed out and all that is left is Cibernetico's name. In my opinion some super cool psychology.
Another great instance of continuity is the character of Zorro. He is a Mexican, who lost his hair to Manson while Manson was still heel. They forced him into this cursed iron mask humiliating him. When the Hell Brothers were formed, Zorro put the past behind him and joined the Hell Brothers in their fight and they eventually removed the mask. However, Zorro still resented the Hell Brothers for what they did him and grew more aggravated that fans were willing to adopt these disgusting scumbags as their heroes. So he turned on all of AAA by joining the Foreign Legion in their big Dome of the Dead match.
Lastly, not to become forgotten don't overlook the Apache/Billy Boy storyline, which is how a soap opera family angle should be done. As Gran Apache, father of Mari and Fabi Apache, hates his son in-law Billy Boy (who's married to Fabi). He has kidnapped their child and set Mari against them. After Apache kicked his ass a couple of times. Billy Boy got all depressed and emo and started hanging on with the trannies (I find the tranny division to be unfunny and stupid). Fabi has basically disowned him. All setting up for the big culmination of Billy Boy getting his comeuppance, which I don't know if has gotten.
Plus there's La Familia de Tijuana of Psychosis, Halloween, and Extreme Tiger (who is being touted as the new Rey Mysterio), the Psycho Clowns, the Juvy-led Mexi-Powers, and the Minis.
Thanks Chip, some of what I saw this weekend makes sense now. A woman attacked Billy Boy & he kissed her so I'm guessing that was Fabi. She's pretty good.
Mesias is back. There was a kind of funny occurance in the main event tag between Konnan/Zorro vs Cibernetico/La Parka where Mesias attemoted a run in to attack Cibernetico only to be laid out by Konnan.
AAA is a lot of fun, only they have some trouble advancing angles sometimes. I mean, you'll go through five weeks of programming where the main and semi-main events are almost identical. Still, it's fun to watch, and quite a contrast to stuff like the WWE and TNA.
The first week of AAA on Galavision that I ever saw was the week that Mesias took over La Secta and booted Cibernetico. Oh my lord, I can't remember the last time I saw someone take a beating that bad from that many people. Cibernetico got his ass handed to him by something like seven or eight guys, and the ass-whoopin' flowed from the ring down the ramp to the back and out onto some parking garage loading dock. The whole thing was like a 45 minute, two-commercial-break event and it NEVER got old because it was so intense.
