I think I will just start a new thread because I am sure I will have plenty of questions about this
I just had to get a new computer the other day, the old one finally died on me, bad hard drive, bad video card, bad sound card. It was seven years old, so I certainly got my moneys worth out of it.
Unfortunately for me, it happened now instead of a month ago or so when I could still get . Gotta say I am not real thrilled with Vista so far.
The first problem I am having is my screen saver won't come up. I have tried several of the different loaded ones, and they will never come up. Any ideas?
The Phillies are everything I hoped the Mets would be - a team that plays their fucking asses off for all 27 outs. They're never out of a game. Solly 10/20/09

did you buy it at a store or get it mailorder? cuz if you got it at a store just drive back to it and exchange it for another one. i have a computer with vista and it works fine. my screen saver comes up all the time. exchanging would be the easiest fix.
I agree. Every time you have a problem with your computer drive to the store and exchange it. Please updates us on how each visit is received and when they have enough.
Or don't do either. If you can't find an image you like at either than don't force it. Just give me something you like and which will look good on the board.

no I ordered this one through Dell, I am sure I can call tech, I was just hoping this was something that was an easy fix that would not require a call to India

or, ya know, he JUST got a computer and out of the box it's not functioning properly.
in THIS SITUATION, going to the store and exchanging it would be the easiest fix.
of course, he got it mail order the it's a moot point.
I was not mocking your solution. I was merely hoping to convince Moose to try and exchange his computer every time it crashes or gets a virus in the hopes he blogs the responses of the folks at the store.

Please call India. Please.

First off, go to the Control Panel, then Windows Update.
Make sure to completely update all the critical and important updates that are there.
My guess will be that there will be MANY updates to install.
When this is done, then go into the screensaver control panel (Control Panel > Personalize > Screen Saver) and test a screen saver using Windows Logo.
You could very well have a video card driver issue, which after you update will be sussed out.
Let's start with you doing these things, then get back to me...
It would amuse me if next year Byrne did a women's fed or Texas fed. I'd just like to see how he tries to make it a dark, demonic, ECW homage led by James Mitchell or Raven. -- Lucky, 2009
see. i told you byrne was the way to go here. like i said, he's a big dork. -- Ziggy, 2009

Also, Microsoft has had for quite a long time the notion of backwards licensing. Meaning, if you purchase SQL Server 2005, you can instead use that license for SQL 2000.
In your case, if you hate Vista that much, you can LEGALLY use on the machine. I'd say give Vista a chance, it's not bad, and at worst isn;t any worse then if you learn where they move things.

Byrnes, thanks! I knew it had to be something really simple that I was overlooking. I guess when you buy something brand new, you just assume it will be updated. That was a dumb assumption. I got the screensaver and the other plug-ins to work, now its just a matter of figuring out where everything else is
