Spider-man is finally interesting after 8 months

minor spoilers ahead
my hatred for the post one more day spider-man has been no secret. i tried to give it a chance but could only make it about 3 months into it. after 5 months of not reading spider-man (for the first time in my 18 years of reading. while i may not have always read amazing, i did always read at least ONE of the main marvel U spidey titles) i decided to give this "new ways to die" story a try. i figured it was dan slott (easily the best of the writing team they set up) and romita jr, plus plus venom (including eddie brock), if any story has a chance, it's this one.
so i picked up parts 1 and 2 and low and behold it wasn't that bad. in fact it was a fairly enjoyable read. especially part 2 as things really picked up. norman osborn and the thunderbolts showed up, it was pretty cool.
but here's where the issue really got me:
peter actually acknowledged that people used to know who he was, and that he did something to make them forget. that's right. amazing spider-man doesn't exist in some sort of continuity bubble. nor is he an idiot who is just accepting that his entire history doesn't make any sense.
basically, what happened was spidey came home and found norman in his apt. norman wanted parker to help find spider-man, be cause he knew he had a relationship with him to get all those photos he always gets. to which peter said to himself (paraphrasing) "right, he don't know anymore. nobody remembers who i am. what we did is still in place"
so he may not know about the whole mephisto thing, but he does know things used to be different and that he did something to change it all.
i find the prospect very intriguing. it'll be nice to have them show me how they undid everything JMS spent 7 years doing, rather than just magicly undoing everything JMS spent 7 years doing.
