TSN IS DEAD TO ME!

God damn it.
Over the years I've had subscriptions to Sports Illustrated and ESPN the Magazine. I didn't care for either. Long articles and feature pieces on specific topics aren't what I'm interested in. I don't need info on obscure sports. Character pieces do nothing for me. I like stats and quick reads. I like newspaper sports sections and box scores.
So I've subscribed to The Sporting News for years because it was right for me. Perfect toilet reading material. Short and clear reads, some interesting numbers, some longer articles and feature pieces if I wanted them, and not much fluff. A lot of my friends have wondered why I subscribe to it when its a lot like a newspaper to them, and I just say that if it made sense or fit me I'd just subscribe to a paper and read the sports section, but I don't sit on the toilet that long and I have the internet and ESPN News (and even podcasts) to catch up on last night's events. TSN gave me some nice and quick reading material that interested me, didn't bog me down with fluff, and got a new issue each week. That's what I want.
But damn TSN has been changing. Never mind that the baseball content has gone down considerably the last few years. TSN was always known for being the baseball magazine but its been flowing more and more mainstream with NFL and college football and baseball being marginalized.
The geek in me was upset that the fantasy content had disappeared. TSN had just the right amount of fantasy stuff. 1 page on each sport, just enough little things to give you tips and names to get check up on. Just some mildly interesting notes. But its not a big deal, just a missing part of the magazine.
Then I noticed that the articles seemed to be getting longer. The baseball section got a lot smaller, as did the NBA and other sections. All those box score type sections were clearly being pushed aside for the features and character pieces. Uh oh.
So now its done. A few weeks ago I got a letter from them saying that TSN was changing formats. It was getting larger to ESPN Magazine size, and now once every two weeks! Fuckers! I knew it was coming and I had already received an issue of the new TSN, but this issue I received today was the first I really sat down and looked at. Its fucking SI/ESPN Magazine. The box score like stuff is gone. The baseball section is 3 pages and made up of an exciting look at Atlanta's Smoltz, Glavine, and Maddux going the Hall of Fame (WOW!) and Doug M...z telling us what it was like to be friends with A-Rod in high school. Its just gone. Everything that made TSN different and made me want it. If I could I'd cancel the rest of subscription and demand the couple of dollars back. Fuck this shit.
If only Baseball Weekly wasn't dead.
