Street Fighter II is the only fighting game that ever hooked me. So it must've been awesome. Sonic boom, bitches. That being said, there must've been a plain old Street Fighter, but I don't remember it.

There was, but it was closer to Karate Champ then it was Street Fighter 2.

The original Street Fighter sucked. The graphics and characters were cool, and it had Ryu, Ken, and Sagat (as well as Adon and Birdie who showed up on SFA) but the controls were clunky and unresponsive as hell. Pulling off a fireball was so fucking hard to do, and a shoryuken was impossible. And they're the SAME joystick movement as SF2.

Not to mention that when the SF came out in the arcade, no one even know you could do a fireball or shryuken.

Street Fighter II brings back so many high school memories. I could wax nostalgic on that forever.

Even my wife loved Street Fighter. When we got her Super Nintendo working again when we were in college she bought it at a used game store and we played it together. Her favorite was Blanka.

I didn't include MGS4 on my noms because I think it's been too soon since it was out to really be objective, and I've only played through the whole of it once. Plus Street Fighter 2 is Street Fighter 2, so...

I was going to say the same thing. Can a game that has really only been out a month or so even be considered as one of the best games ever?

I did

I never played Metal Gear Solid 4. but I did play Street Fighter II, I wasn't that impressed. Though to be fair, I generally don't like fighting games

MGS4 is also quite niche. It's very much made for the fans of the games, and if you were to play it as your first MGS game, a lot of it would be lost on you.

I remember playing an early arcade version of the original Street Fighter, where the controls were just two drum-pad type things. I was maybe 11 or 12, but I remember a bunch of guys huddled up around the machine, and apparently the objective of the game was to hit the pads as hard as possible in order to pull off the big moves. Well, one kid came out with a Louisville Slugger, and just beat the everloving SHIT out of those two pads. He won the game, but was shortly thereafter arrested for destruction of private property. It was definitely entertaining to watch. I just stood there and played Centipede while the guy got hauled off.
