My mother works in HR for the hospital system, and she fires at least one employee a month because of Facebook.

Some of the staff members have gone as far as posting patients' names (which is a huge violation of confidentiality) and talking about mistreating patients. On Facebook. Without setting their profiles to private.

Facebook/Myspace is a major pain in the ass for schools. Teachers who post up the usual booze/sex stuff where their students/parents can find it is the easiest one to deal with because at least then you can just point out to the adult what a fucking moron they are.

Of course I have God knows how many friends who have myspace/facebook accounts with the usual cursing, drunk pictures, and sex stuff and I'm just waiting for one of them to tell me they got in trouble for it when a kid managed to find it.

People are retarded. On the flipside, college admissions sometimes checks the kids social networking profiles and you'd be amazed at how dumb Lil Miss Private College Applicant likes to spend her non-school nights...

When I start student teaching in January, I'm considering getting rid of my Facebook all together, or at least keeping it on the most private settings possible. I mean, I don't have anything terrible on my Facebook to begin with, but I don't want students' friend requests and all that crap.

One of the many reasons I quit working in schools is because it had become my job to deal with all the social networking issues that popped up with students and teachers because I had the best understanding of the technology. It really is amazing that a kid can post videos of him smoking in the back of a classroom and then ask why he'd get in trouble for that. "You moron, you posted video of you breaking rules! Just be glad you're not one of the kids who is in trouble because she says she's 19 on Myspace and sends nude photos to college students."

Of course my cousin got equally as pissed off when she was shocked her parents were upset by the sex stuff on her myspace that she had her cousins connected to. So who the fuck knows? People are such morons.

Eric, probably a good idea to wipe out your Facebook/MySpace stuff while student teaching.

I'm on another site and recently deleted all photos showing my face or other identifying features, at least until I get tenure. Plus, I teach middle school now, and I just don't need Paco or Jaquori coming in and saying 'Hey, teach, I read about your genital herpes; ya doin' okay?"
