I doubt Robin and Nightwing will be without homes for good (Fabian Nicieza says The Fun's Just Beggining for Tim). Bird of Prey is a bit worrying, cos I dunno where some of those characters would go. Huntress could be in the Outsiders, but I dunno what Manhunter and Lady Blackhawk are going to end up doing. Beetle's still in Teen Titans I guess (though that's going to go through a roster change soon).

DiDio: What happens is that, after February, Batman and Detective go on hiatus. They will return, with their natural numbering, later in the year. And we've cancelled Robin, Nightwing and Birds of Prey. With all of these books, it's not that any of these characters are going to be off the slate for any amount of time – quite the opposite. They will be prominently featured in Battle for the Cowl and a number of series that will be premiering in June once Cowl concludes.

IGN Comics: Recently you've announced the cancellation of projects like Blue Beetle and Manhunter. I know sales determine what has happened… but some of those are good titles being taken off the shelves – have you guys been able to pinpoint why the readers aren't reacting to some of these?

DiDio: I think one of the problems is that there is so much to choose from right now. There is so much noise and there are so many events, and so many books are tying in. And we have to be realistic; people only have so many dollars to spend on comics. As much as we'd like to think they can buy everything they put out, we know that's not the truth.

So sometimes, unfortunately, books like Manhunter, Blue Beetle… they're lost in the shuffle, primarily because the key franchises, the known franchises are the ones getting a first look by everybody. That doesn't mean we ever give up on the characters. We held onto Blue Beetle for a long time even though the sales weren't there to support it. We came back twice with Manhunter even though the sales weren't there to support it. I don't consider each one a disappointment or a failure, they just didn't catch fire. I feel very comfortable with what we created with both of those series. Our goal is to give the characters a rest for a little bit while keeping them prominent in the DC Universe and relaunch them at a later point when they can get another bite at the apple. And, you know, the new Blue Beetle will be a mainstay in the DCU, so you can count on seeing him in the Teen Titans and other places as well.
