I know Cory and Sop watched it - thoughts?
I liked it a lot (although that might be my McShane bias showing up) but I think it would do better as a miniseries rather than a serial. I mean, can anyone see a 2nd season of this?
I'm trying to place where I saw that minister before, it was killing me for the entire show.

I thought it was really good. I had originally seen the first 30-40 minutes at Comic-Con last year so I had a good idea of the show already, but they even improved the original pacing from then as the first scene with the Reverend getting his car fixed felt like it was 15 minutes originally and then it seemed like it was 5 minutes tops in the actual pilot.
I'm pretty sure they changed 2 very noticeable things from the preliminary pilot I saw. I'm 95% sure David's brother had lived for some time because I know there was a scene highlighted that showed the brother in the capital with him, but maybe it was another brother or they portrayed Jack as his brother. And Jack was the 2nd HUGE change as there was NOTHING originally that gave the impression of gay in what I saw.
Ratings sucked, but I blame NBC for that. Asking a brand new show to come in on a Sunday with no-lead in is too tough I think. Second, it's not an 8PM show at all and I hate that the ER team forced their way into NBC moving this show from the comfortable Thursday 10PM slot. I hope it gets time to develop as I think it has the potential to be really awesome.

Gotta love NBC. They tried to get all cute with hiding Clooney's guest appearance on ER when they should have hyping that for weeks and now they finally have a decent show and they bury it on Sunday. It might as well be on Friday at 10, a la Homicide.

I would think Sunday would be a solid debut assuming you advertise properly. And I watch like 0 shows on NBC and saw commercials, so I'm guessing they advertised properly. People are home Sunday night and there's no real competition. Its a night where you might give something new a try because its not like House or Lost or 24 or American Idol is on tonight.
When's it actually on though? Because if its not on next Sunday then its a screwy strategy I think networks are dumb for doing. Because next Sunday I'll get a call from my mom asking me where the show she saw last week is.
It doesn't really look like my think but the commercials made me mildly interested. I forgot to DVR it because I didn't know it was on until Dev told me last night, but I'll probably track it down on Hulu or NBC.com or something. Maybe. Give it a try. If I can give Castle a chance and Dollhouse 6 or 7 then I guess I can give this one a chance.
Or don't do either. If you can't find an image you like at either than don't force it. Just give me something you like and which will look good on the board.
I'm watching the show now on Hulu. In general I don't dig adaptations of things, nor do I look to religious anything for entertainment, but this seems to be working.
How much I've forgotten about the actual David story should help keep the story interesting.
Ian McShane owns. The acting all around is pretty good.
My problem is that I'm having a hard time grasping the war aspect of the country. First of all, the funding of the treasury by a private company. Maybe they'll do some explaining, but it seems like the "front" was really 10 acres or something small. I just can't tell if this is more N v. S Korea, US v Canada, or UAE v. Whatever's next to them. Is this a huge capital city in a country of lots of big cities or is it the only big city in the country? How far is Port Prosperity from the capital? And don't even get me started on the headaches having a war funded by a private company that's seemingly paid with public capital that is actually same private company's cash. I don't need all these questions answered but it would help me get some bearings because they want us blown away by Shiloh.
The second episode was a lot smoother. David interpreting dreams works and isn't cheesy. The captured ruler in prison is cool and if you've read any spoilers the payoff could be interesting in who they're bringing in for some episodes. I do think it strange that the Princess is always running around unattended and unnoticed but whatever. I'll keep watching it, because it feels like cable and I miss premium cable.

Absolutely. It's a million times better than a crown of butterflies.

Wasn't that Brian Cox? He was great for his little stint on Deadwood. He and McShane seem to really mesh.

Me too since I was worried that it felt more like a mini-series after the pilot. The 2nd episode definitely had a better flow to it. I just hope NBC sticks with it.
