Interesting choice. Seems like Star trek has opened up some opportunities for him.
I wonder what they'll do story-wise besides just the origin story, with a big bad. I always thought Loki would be easy as they are brothers, and have Ben Foster (who plays crazy really well www.imdb.com/name/nm0004936/ ) play him.
It would amuse me if next year Byrne did a women's fed or Texas fed. I'd just like to see how he tries to make it a dark, demonic, ECW homage led by James Mitchell or Raven. -- Lucky, 2009
see. i told you byrne was the way to go here. like i said, he's a big dork. -- Ziggy, 2009
haha. i just said to myself "let me go to puns house, as i'm sure stu has posted this pic by now." thank you for not disappointing.
honestly, i think whether or not this look works will come all down to the cinematography. i'm happy with the design, but direction and lighting is gonna be the difference between kick ass or cheeseball.
oh, and being only a sporadic thor reader, i have no idea who this destroyer guy is.
It's a magic suit of armour that Odin made, and that Loki then manages to get control of to use as a soldier.
Yeah, that's the idea. Also, it's indestructible. It needs a life force of some kind to operate (i.e., Loki or Odin takes control of it, rather than actually wearing it). The only way to stop it is to stop whoever's controlling it.
the new costume is definitely more realistic and it's good they went that way. to me what will make or break it is, for example, will the sleeves look like metal or rubber in the final product. and that's where cinematography comes in.
i have to admit that in this shot it's coming off a little more rubber than i would hope (and the chest plate reads a little too much like plastic than a norse warrior would wear). but i'm also aware that this is a still, and it's early, and it doesn't have the advantages of post-production. so i'm not making judgments at this point. hell, with this shot alone i'm happier with thor's costume than i am with cap's casting. but still, it's something they have to pay attention to.
What Ziggy said. I don't love the shot. I don't really like the current look in the comics. But it does look like it would translate better to film and in the end almost all hero costumes tend to look off when we first see them. As Zig said a lot of it is going to come down to the directing and whether Branagh can make it work with good lighting and shots ala Iron Man or Batman or if he goes with long, lingering shots of Superman's crotch in bright lights.
EDIT: This film stars Natalie Portman, Kurt Hopkins, and Idris Elba? Holy crap. I was gonna see it anyway because its part of the Avengers thing but... damn, Marvel Studios doesn't pull punches with their casts.
No, just me making a really stupid mistake. Don't even know who "Kurt" is that I was confusing the two. But I've been doing that sort of shit all week. My brain has been stuck in 1st gear or something.

That original picture looked a lot better than these pictures, although the cinematography can make it work. The lighting on those new pics make the costume look a little silly, but I still think it will work. I do wish it looked a bit more battle armor like the current Thor costume in the comics is. The vest and those pants look too modern.
I'm with ya in thinking part of the "meh" is probably due to the lighting. Also probably due a bit to the white background. If I have some time in a bit I'll put it on some different backgrounds to see if it softens on the eyes a bit.
