So I'm cleaning some old stuff out of my mom's place and along with my dad's substantial train, coin, and stamp collections that I need to find a way to appraise and sell I pulled out a stack of Classics Illustrated. Damned if I know if these are worth anything and I'm too tired to do the legwork now but I figured (a) if they were worth something some of you guys might know and (b) Serg might actually want them since he loves these old comics.
Yeah, that's all I got. I got about 3 dozen of them. They all seem to be in good condition in plastic bags with paper backs but I haven't taken many of them out so who knows? One of them the cover basically fell apart as I was taking it out, the other few I took out seemed ok. None seem to be original printings although they're from the old 40s-70s run. My guess is they're 60s/70s when my dad was old enough to collect and keep after the days of "I had a Joe Dimaggio rookie card but my mom threw the shoe box out!"
So yeah, that's all I got. I'm tired and too lazy to do the looking online and I know i'll be too lazy to find a comic shop and ask questions any time this weekend. But I thought I'd mention it because, hey, we have a comic forum. And it gave me a break from moving VERY dusty crap that is sending my allergies into overdrive.
Or don't do either. If you can't find an image you like at either than don't force it. Just give me something you like and which will look good on the board.
I don't have any money to buy them and probably won't have money to spend on old comics for a while.
But I'd be happy to help you figure out if any of them are worth much. The trouble with Classics Illustrated is that they reprinted them over and over and the different editions aren't generally identifiable from looking at the cover, you have to take it out and look at the indicia--which can be a touchy process if the comic is fragile as you discovered.
Most of the later editions aren't worth a lot--in the $5 to $20 range--but there are a few odd rare editions that can be worth hundreds in decent shape. Look for the HRN#--combined with the issue number that will tell you exactly what edition you have.
