I was just cleaning out my old office upstairs and came across these:



I also have the full size scan of them here. The white specks are from dust on the scanner.

I think I got these in a grab bag when I was trying to get some other cards. With the years Soriano, Jeter, and Bonds had, do you guys think these are worth anything? Should I put them up on eBay now, or wait?

I wouldn't guess they're worth anything really, no. You can pick up a Beckett's price guide for $5 and figure it out for sure.

As best as I can tell the Soriano card is a 2000 Fleer Tradition "Who to Watch" card (#9 of 15) and a bunch of online sites have it listed at $1-3. Ebay already has one listed at 30¢.

I can't figure the other two out. If I saw the back I probably could. Or you can just go to a google seach, type in the brand name, player, and any distinguishing brands you see and probably find it. The Bonds is an Upper Deck SP card but without the year I've got a LOT of cards to choose from. Jeter is worse since all I have to go on is "Topps Star." But the years on the back of the cards will narrow it down hugely.

Admittedly, I know nothing about baseball cards, so I wouldn't even know what to look for in a Beckett Guide. Here is a scan of the back of them.

Checking is easy but I used to be a BIG collecter when I was a kid. I still have a HUGE collection of cards in my mom's basement that my dad and I collected. We always intended to start dealing some day but I grew up and then he passed away so it stalled. I should really revisit that idea now as they're just collecting dust (and water damage in many cases). At this stage I know I'm sitting on a lot of '80's - '90s rookie cards of Hall of Famers. Clemens' rookie card cost something in '93, it probably costs more in '06.

Ok. The Jeter card is a '99 Topps Stars card (#5). Again, looks like the same price range. Ebay's up tp 50¢ now.

Bonds appears to be a '95 Upper Deck SP card. Looks like the regular set of cards from that year.

Bottom line, you have 3 random cards from the last 10 years, none of them rookies. The players don't mean much when they're not rookies. The Jeter and Soriano cards LOOK special but in reality they're just inserts. All the baseball card companies clued in during the '80s and '90s and started making an absurd number of special cards. Holograms, glossy, weird cuts, "limited editions", etc. They could sell them at least at double the price of the regular cards or just trick you into buying 10 Jeter cards a year. Then a couple of years down they actually lose value because the market was flooded with billions of Jeter cards.

But don't toss them or anything. I didn't actually look at a Beckett's (I don't have one these days) so those aren't actual pricings. You never know. If you don't want to do the work you could always just head to a baseball card store and ask the guys there to appraise the cards for you. If you did have a valuable card though they could always screw you over of course.
