Last Week
Lucky knocked off GM to build a substantial lead in the Cupcakes division. Army built a nice lead for himself in the Bananas division by handing Grover another loss. Mikey lost only his 2nd week of the season to the rebounding Dev. Pun lost his 4th straight being defeated by AA. MKid's kept moving towards the top of the Cupcakes Division with a win over Moose. And Vols stayed red hot notching his 4th straight win over Solly. Cupcakes and Bananas go 3-3-0 leaving the season series at 10-8-0 favoring the Cupcakes.
Interleague Play
Two 1st place teams lock up when Lucky's Spreadsheet Studs faces Army's Balad Shithooks. Mid week the teams played even as you'd expect. Army held an 8-6-0 lead going into the weekend but with the only strong lead being a 3.23/1.16 ERA/WHIP to Lucky's 5.72/1.80. But Lucky's pitching would take a remarkable turn over the weekend in large thanks to 30 IP of 3.00 ERA on Sunday and Lucky would manage to drop his ERA down more than 2 Rs to 3.63 to steal the category from Army. 51 Ks and 4 Ws over the weekend would also nab those categories but Army's 1.17 WHIP would be too much to overcome. On the offensive side Army's offense did what it always does racking up 6 HRs, 22 RBI, and 23 R over the weekend. But Lucky would do a good job staying on pace and while he'd fall 3 RBI and 5 Rs short a pair of late Sunday HRs would nab that category for him 13-12. When all was said and done Army would control a close battle on the offensive side and Lucky a close battle on the pitching side and the teams would leave no worse than they came in, splitting the week at 7-7-0.
Pun's It Byrne's When I Peavy started the firesale process this week seemingly a bad sign for his competitive ability, but his opponent Moose's OneEyed Jacks is very close to needing to do the same. Going into the weekend Pun would hold a surprising 8-5-1 lead despite some ugly pitching numbers including 6.09 ERA. Over the weekend Pun would pull that down to 3.32 but with only 40.2 IP on the week would fall well short of Ks while racking up 0 Saves or Holds. But despite 77.1 IP from Moose his staff managed to go a whopping 0-8 meaning Pun's 3 Ws were more than enough to score him a victory in that category. Moose faired a bit better on the offensive side where what were narrow leads on Thursday in HRs and RBI remained narrow leads on Sunday with Moose winning by 1 HR and 6 RBI. He'd also manage to raise is OPS almost a run to steal that category from Pun. When the dust settled the two struggling teams had to call it a draw as neither racked up a needed W but neither grabbed another L. 7-7-0.
MKid's Dual National Champions and Dev's Jersey ColdFusion have had similar paths the last few weeks. Dev was in 1st while MKid was half a game out when suddenly both teams found themselves distant thirds in their divisions after just one week. Both teams nabbed rebound wins last week and look to continue the momentum and climb back to the top. Going into the weekend Dev held the substantial 9-4-1 thanks in large part to a superior offensive campaign that included 11 HRs and a .902 OPS. Both teams were having amazing pitching weeks to this point, MKid holding down ERA and WHIP with a 1.63 ERA and 0.98 WHIP to beat out Dev's 2.82/1.15. Both pitching staffs naturally came to Earth on the weekend but not much changed between the teams. Raising his ERA to 3.81 and WHIP to 1.15 was still enough to beat a raised ERA/WHIP from Dev of 4.95/1.39. A 2-1 W-L record for Kid over the weekend meant turning W into a tie and turning L from a loss to a tie. On the offensive side Kid's offense still struggled to do much of anything RAISING his AVG and OPS to .203/.579 from .172/.530. Dev held onto all offensive categories just like he had all week, except Ks. But Kid was able to do enough damage on the pitching side to lessen blow and limit Dev to a 7-5-2 victory.
Mikey's Blue Sox picked up only their 2nd loss on the season last week falling back into the standings from 2nd while AA's 3-Time! 3-Time! 3-Time! picked up only their 3rd W but managed to lose ground, leaving AA fighting to get things going before its too late and Mikey looking to regain his footing. It was a close battle going into the weekend with AA leading 6-5-3 despite very pedestrian numbers. Mike's pitching was stepping up with a 2.78 ERA but his 10 Rs, 3 HRs, and 12 RBI were beat out by AA's 11 R, 4 HR, and 13 RBI... while Mike's .235 ERA and .697 OPS beat out AA's .193/.605. Things did pick up substantially for both sides over the weekend. Mike added 21 R, 7 HR, and 19 RBI to raise his AVG/OPS to .259/.795. But he'd still lose all of these categories as AA would add 27 R, 10 HR, and 20 RBI raising his AVG/OPS to .285/.867. On the pitching side Mike's ERA would rise to 3.60 but would remain strong enough to hold on, and thanks to AA's WHIP rising from 1.15 to 1.41 Mike would add another category. But AA would add 3 HLDs, 2 SVs, and 1 L to Mike's 3 to take all 3 of those categories from ties to wins. All told the damage was sever for Mike as he takes his 2nd loss in a row (and his 6th all time to AA) by a score of 10-4-0 AA.
In another battle of the have nots in the league Grover's New Day Co-Op looks for only his 2nd win of the season against Beat Me Solly who is bravely fighting off the need to firesale in the face of injuries. Going into the weekend Solly looked likely to live another week as he lead 9-4-1 thanks to an impressive .389 AVG and 1.008 OPS as well as a 4.11 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 4-3 W-L record. As the weekend would play out Grover's pitching would make a charge dropping their ERA from 5.28 to 3.89 and WHIP from 1.52 to 1.38, but Solly would hold him off with a 3.71 ERA and holding at a 1.33 WHIP. Despite his success Grover would fail to grab any Ws but Solly would pick up one L, giving Grover a tied category. But that would be all Grover could gain this weekend. While Solly's offensive stats came down they'd all still sit plenty high to take down Grover. 11 SB, 9 HR, and 36 R would keep Grover competitive on the week but when it was all said and done he'd fall for the 9th time this year and Solly would get by one more week on an 8-5-1 victory.
Vols' Schwetty Vols come into this week red hot with 4 straight wins against GM's Comerica National Park who had a winning streak snapped last week do to unlucky scheduling. Vols took an early 9-2-3 lead with some dominant numbers like a .357 AVG, 1.013 OPS, 0.57 ERA, and 1.02 WHIP. Over the weekend GM would start to fight back and thanks to Vols coming down to earth would end up taking AVG and OPS by a score of .295 to .291 and .876 to .838. 17 RBI over the weekend would be enough to nab that category but 7 SB on the week would be useless against Vols' 11. On the pitching side GM had no luck again this week. Managing to drop his ERA and WHIP from 5.40/1.95 to 3.35/1.22 is impressive but useless against a 2.18 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. Losing W, L, and SV by only 1 and falling a mere 2 Ks short GM for the 2nd week in a row would put up big numbers only to BARELY be inched out by his opponent. Vols sets a new season record of 5 straight wins going over 9-4-1.
After three weeks the battle between divisions had the Cupcakes winning 10-8-0 over the Bananas. This week the Bananas struck back notching a 3-1-2 edge for their first week win, making the season total an even 11-11-2.
Standings
Narrowly getting through the week with a tie Lucky would find his fortunes unchanged entering the week 11.5 up over 1st and ending the week in the same position. The 2nd place team would however be different as Vols big win along with Mike's big loss allowed them to switch places with Vols climbing into 2nd and Mikey sitting 14.5 back in 4th place. MKid would stay in 3rd losing a game in the standings and for the 2nd week in a row 4 Cupcakes teams would be in position to win a playoff spot if they started this week. Outside the pack Grover fell another game a half back while Pun's tie leaves him at 40 back and in the basement.
On the Bananas side things looked very similar. Army's tie left him 8.5 up just as he was coming in but Dev managed to climb into 2nd thanks to his win. GM falls into 3rd 11 back from the division lead and currently outside the playoffs. AA would climb into 4th place passing Solly and getting 4.5 within GM and 15.5 within 1st. Solly would make up 2 Gs in the standings thanks to his win but fall to 5th half a game behind AA. Meanwhile Moose remains in last place and 24 Gs behind 1st place.
Mikey's Stats
In the vs. league average tables, 0.00 is the league average. Anything more than 1.00 either positive or negative is very strong (or weak if negative). Once you get up (or down) near 2.00 it's a number that lends itself to being a statistical anomaly and is due to come back to the pack sooner or later.

It Has Begun
The first Firesale deal of the season was made this week and it came complete with some controversy.
Dev's Jersey ColdFusion traded Ian Stewart (2B, 3B - COL), Willy Taveras (CF - CIN), and his 5th Rd pick in the 2010 Draft. Dropped Glen Perkins (SP - MIN)
Pun's It Byrne's When I Peavy traded Torii Huner (CF - LAA), Marco Scutaro (2B, 3B, SS - TOR), and Paul Konerko (1B - CHW).
While some were critical of the return Pun got for the move a 5th Rd pick gives him the literal value of Hunter who went in the 5th Rd this season. With Scutaro having what most view as a fluke season Pun hopes to capitalize on selling him high and hope that one-time prospect Stewart becomes a worthwhile keeper option (especially since Pun's 2009 Keepers include Geovany Soto, Carlos Marmol, Armando Gallaraga, and Ricky Nolasco... all players who have thus far failed to match their 2008 numbers making their keeper value in 2010 questionable). Meanwhile Dev hopes that Konerko and Scutaro can remain productive long enough to help him with the playoff chase and can reasonably consider 3 current contributors to be worth a 5th Rd pick.
With Solly and AA both winning last week they have likely avoided firesaling yet but how long will Moose and Grover wait until they join Pun in what all look like lost seasons?
This Week
With the Interleague battles locked up at 11-11-2 we enter into the last week of Interleague play for awhile as Week 13 will see division play start back up. Cupcakes leader Lucky takes on Bananas bottom dweller as he surely hopes to build on his division lead. Bananas leader Army has a much larger challenge as he faces off against the red hot Vols who has won a season best 5 straight. Dev has won 2 straight to get back into 2nd in the Bananas division and now faces off against the sub-.500 and firesaling Pun to try and keep it going. MKid looks to get back into the winning ways against AA, who looks like he may have started his charge back into competition with 2 straight Ws. GM has suffered two straight hard luck losses but hopes that can't continue as he faces off against Grover who has been unable to get anything going this season. And Mikey looks to rebound from 2 straight losses as he faces off against Solly, who continues to fight against a rash of injuries and try and stay alive long enough for his roster to get healthy. Also, now that we're at the half way point of the season and just about 6 weeks away from the trade deadline will we see more trades as teams try to patch up holes or throw in the towel and look towards 2010?
