Its late and half assed. Sorry. Been busy and the draft has me burned out on PunsHouse chores. Plus I'm actually managing my fantasy teams at the half way point.
Division leaders Lucky and Army fought each other to a draw both managing to begin and end the week with the same division leads. AA beat Mikey, Solly beat Grover, and Dev beat MKid as the Bananas dominated the Cupcakes in Week 11. Vols wracked up the only win of the week for the Cupcakes by beating GM and in the process set a season record of 5 straight wins. Pun followed up the first firesale trade of the season by drawing a tie with Moose. Bananas tie up the interleague score going into the final week of play for awhile.
Interleague Play
Midway through the Lucky's Spreadsheet Studs vs Moose's OneEyed Jacks Moose would publicly declare a firesale on the year, suggesting an easy win for the Cupcakes leader. And at the half way point it looked just like that at 10-3-1 Lucky. But the offensive stats were close and despite leading in ERA and WHIP he did so with a 5.23 ERA and 1.74 WHIP, thanks in large part to only having thrown 10.1 IP in 4 days to Moose's 32, a difference that allowed Moose to lead in W 1-0 and K 18-8. Lucky would add 65.2 IP over the weekend dropping his ERA/WHIP down to 4.26/1.24 and taking K back with 74, but unfortunately for him Moose would manage to also to drop his ERA to 3.66 and pick up 4 Ws to hold on there and tie Ls up. And Lucky's offense all but stalled out over the weekend giving him 0 HR, 9 R, and 18 RBI allowing Moose to take all 3 categories easily. When all was said done Lucky was... lucky to scrape by with a 7-6-1 win when he held onto AVG by a score of .259 to .250.
Last week Pun's It Byrne's When I Peavy started the firesale by unloading a number of key contributors to Dev's Jersey ColdFusion, and as luck would have it the two faced off the next week. To make matters even more lopsided Pun had failed to update his rosters since the trade and thus played the entire week with open roster positions and DLed players. Unsurprisingly Dev went into the weekend up 10-2-2 despite an unimpressive offensive showing of 4 HRs, 25 R, and 15 RBI and despite Pun's pitching actually showing up with a 2.84 ERA and 1.20 WHIP that was only narrowly topped by a 2.70/1.05 set. Over the weekend Dev's pitching woud hold up but his offense would continue to struggle allowing Pun to grab AVG and OPS as well as HRs by a grand score of 7-6. But Dev would still hold on in most of the categories and narrowly grab W 4-3 to finish the week against an undermanned and absentee Pun 9-5-0.
AA's 3-Time! 3-Time! 3-Time! has been on a charge of late climbing out of the basement in the Bananas division and back into contention. MKid's Dual National Champions came within half a game of the Cupcakes and league lead but has since fallen off and back into the back. Going into the weekend the momentum looked unchanged as AA led the matchup 11-2-1 with significant leads in quite a few categories but still close enough for Kid to strike back, including a razor thin WHIP lead of 1.333 to 1.336! Over the weekend though MKid started to scrape back notching 4 SB to take that category and grabbing Rs by a score of 38-35. On the pitching side a pair of HLDs and 0 Ls over the weekend grabbed him another two and finally it would go back to that VERY close WHIP battle as MKid, who entered the weekend losing that category by only 0.003 pts would finish the week winning it by only 0.003 pts with a finally WHIP of 1.317 to AA's 1.320! That would assure an end to AA's blossoming winning streak as the two teams tied 7-7-0.
After spending the first 9 weeks of the season as the most dominant team in the league Mikey's Blue Sox has hit a roadbump with a 2 week losing streak. His opponent this week is Beat Me Solly who picked up a win over Grover last week to keep his playoff hopes alive for this season. Going into the weekend things looked good for Mikey who held a 9-5-0 lead on the strength of a .355 AVG, 1.026 OPS, 28 R, 8 HR, 30 RBI, and 3 SB offense. Solly fought back with a 2.83 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 1 L to 3 but was looking at a big fight if he wanted to come back. 39 K to take that category was a good start but ultimately it wasn't to happen. Mikey held on for Ws in a few close categories such as R (43-40), SB (5-4), and W (5-4) and was able to hold onto to most of his week's lead ending his losing streak with a final score of 8-6-0.
GM's Comerica National Park has been the victim of bad luck and a tough schedule as a 2 week losing streak can be chalked up to playing the Cupcakes' two hottest teams, Lucky and Vols, on big weeks where he would have beat most other teams. This week he gets a lighter challenge in Grover's New Day Co-Op who is still looking for only his 2nd W of the season. Unfortunately GM's luck didn't seem to be fairing much better as Grover would post a 0.92 ERA and 1.22 WHIP while staying close in most categories giving GM a meager 6-4-4 lead going into the weekend. But things would start to pick up for GM as he'd break 3 ties in SB, W, and SV. Grover would continue to play him hard and close though and take the AVG from him .303 to .301, but in the end GM would stay far enough ahead to get back in the winning ways with an 8-5-1 final score.
Bananas division leader Army's Balad Shithooks has been strong of late winning 2 of his last 3, 5 of his last 7, and drawing the Cupcakes division leader last week. But his opponent this week is the hottest team in the league as Vols' Schwetty Vols carries a season record 5 week winning streak into this matchup. He was on pace for 6 straight going into the weekend with an 8-6-0 lead in large part thanks to Army's offense giving him 0 HR in 143 ABs. Army would add 5 over the weekend and pick his offense up but would still end the week swept in all categories except SB, a rare and unexpected showing. But he'd also answer back with 8 Ws, a 2.08 ERA, and 1.27 WHIP that would allow him to sweep all pitching categories except HLDs. In the end that would leave Army in much the same position he was last week, drawing even with a top opponent 7-7-0, and ending Vols' winning streak.
After four weeks the battle between divisions was tied at 11-11-2. This week saw 2 draws and ultimately another balanced week of play at 2-2-2. With interleague play taking a break for a few weeks the divisional record will hold at 13-13-4 until Week 16 when the two leagues once again clash for the final 3 of 8 weeks of interleague play.
Almost no change in the Cupcakes division this week as Lucky turns an 11.5 G lead over Vols into a 12 G lead and Mikey goes from half a game behind MKid to half a game in front. Grover and Pun fall a little further behind but at this stage the numbers seem academic. For the 3rd straight week 3 Cupcakes teams would make the playoffs if they started today.
On the Bananas side Army stays on top although Dev managed to shave 2 Gs off his lead to get within 6.5 Gs. GM stays in 3rd but is now within only half a game of MKid for the 6th playoff spot in the league. AA's tie leaves him the same place he was at 15.5 back of 1st and 6.5 back of the playoffs. Solly stays alive falls further back from the pack, only 1.5 game away from AA though. And a now firesaling Moose doesn't fall more than a game but remains comfortable in last place.
In the vs. league average tables, 0.00 is the league average. Anything more than 1.00 either positive or negative is very strong (or weak if negative). Once you get up (or down) near 2.00 it's a number that lends itself to being a statistical anomaly and is due to come back to the pack sooner or later.
Longest Winning Streak - Vols, 5 Weeks (W7 - W11); Current: Dev, 3 Weeks (W10 - W12)
Longest Losing Streak - Grover, 5 Weeks (W1 - W5); AA, 5 Weeks (W2 - W6); Current: Grover, 3 Weeks (W10 - W12)
Longest Undefeated Streak - Lucky, 8 Weeks (W5 - W12, current)
Longest Winless Streak - Grover, 8 Weeks (W1 - W8); Current: - Pun, 6 Weeks (W7 - W12)
One More Down
Last week Pun declared his season done and made the first "Firesale" deal of the season sending Torii Hunter, Paul Konerko, and Marco Scutaro to Dev for Ian Stewart, a 5th Rd pick, and the throw in of Willy Taveras. This week Moose declared his intentions to sell off his team but has yet to make a deal. With Moose taking offers and sporting the #1 pick Alex Rodriguez how long will he wait to make a deal and how much will that change the prospects of the rest of the league? And as he contemplates offers can Pun make more in the closing window of exclusive status as a seller?
Interleague play is on hold and its back into the divisional play with style. Lucky and Vols went undefeated against the Bananas teams over the last 5 weeks at 4-0-1 each but now they have to face each other as Vols looks to put a dent into that 12 G lead. Army will take on the charging AA in an effort to stop him from getting too close to the pack. The week after getting one firesaling team Dev will get the 2nd in Moose as he hopes to make up more ground on a division leader with a tough schedule. MKid and Mike draw Pun and Grover respectively as both teams try to beat up on the runt of the division and jockey position past not only each other but also the Bananas division for the 6th playoff spot. And as GM fights to get back into the top 6 and Solly fights to keep his season alive they'll do it against each other this week in a matchup that could have pretty big implications for the Bananas division race as well as the league at large. The trade deadline is 6 weeks away and teams are starting to fall off and now is the time when teams build leads or lose their season.
