Ok, its rushed again but I'm still trying to catch up. And the short week meant no "going into the weekend..." stuff that I usually use to flesh out the recaps. Next week I'm hoping to get back on pace by starting early.
One week after ending Lucky's season best undefeated streak Vols' efforts to tie it were thwarted thanks to a loss to Mikey who got within 6 Gs of 1st. Lucky drew MKid while Pun sneaked past Grover. Moose provided a huge upset knocking off the best in the Bananas Division Army but it would be a missed opportunity for 2nd place Dev who would lose to GM and only manage to pick up 1 G on the week. Meanwhile Solly would grab a small win over AA helping neither team in their chase of the playoffs.
Cupcakes Division
Lucky's Spreadsheet Studs has only 1 W in the last 4 weeks and is being threatened for 1st in the division and league while Pun's It Byrne's When I Peavy picked up his 1st W in 8 weeks last week. Shortened week or no shortened week Lucky's offense fell asleep only producing 2 HRs and 9 RBIs while Pun's would produce an impressive 9 HRs in the 4 day week. Lucky would hold down ERA, K, and Saves but could only draw even in W-L with a shared 2-3 record. Pun secured the win in the shortened series with a 21 R score to beat Lucky's 19, good enough to secure Pun a 7-5-2 W on the week and give him his first 2 week winning streak of the season.
After a brief 2 week slide Mikey's Blue Sox are back on the fast track with a 3 week winning streak as he tries to chase down Vols and Lucky in the division. Meanwhile MKid's Dual National Champions continues to hold onto the 6th playoff spot and enters the week only 1 G behind Vols and 4 behind Mike. Kid would put up an impressive 2.55 ERA and 2-0 record but in a limited 24.2 IP. Mikey would however put together 43.2 innings with a 1.86 ERA and 3 Ws along with 34 K. On the offensive side of things Kid would win AVG and OPS handily but close battles would land Mikey 1 HR, 3 RBI, and 6 R victories. When all was said done neither would have the time to break ahead and the week's matchup would end at 6-6-2.
Last week Vols' Schwetty Vols saw the end of a 7 week undefeated streak just 1 week shy of the season record while Grover's New Day Co-Op enters the week on a 5 week losing streak, tying himself and AA for worst of the season. Like most matchups this week limited time meant limited numbers as Vols' 2 HRs and 20 R would be good enough to beat Grover's 1 HR and 9 R while they'd draw with 11 RBI. Meanwhile 3 Ws would be enough for Grover to beat Vols' 2 Ws and 31 Ks would give Vols the win over Grover's 31. When all was said and done we'd get our second draw of the week in the Cupcakes Division as the week would end at 6-6-2.
Bananas Division
Both former league champions AA's 3-Time! 3-Time! 3-Time! and GM's Comerica National Park picked up wins last week in their chase of a playoff spot. 6 HRs would sneak AA past GM's 5 but that would be all he'd get on the offensive side including a tough loss in SB as his 6 SB weren't enough to take down GM's 8. On the flipside GM snuck by AA with 41 K over 39 but that would be the only pitching category he'd grab as AA would return the favor taking 6 of 7 on one side. Straight away enough results meant our 3rd draw of the week as the week ends 7-7-0.
Its #1 vs #2 as Army's Balad Shithooks looks to fend off the most immediate threat in the division in Dev's Jersey ColdFusion with both teams coming off loses in week 14. Dev would take the offensive win this week with 6 HRs (to 4), 30 K (to 32), 5 SB (to 4), and a .758 OPS (to .713)... and drawing an even score in Rs at 21. But on the pitching side he'd only manage to grab 1 category with his 5 Saves and Army would net 5 of 7 on the week. Ultimately you can point to a 17-16 RBI win for Army as the difference maker on the week as Army would increase his division lead ever so slightly with a 7-5-2 win on the week.
In our final matchup of the week the firesaling (sold?) Moose's OneEyed Jacks look to avenge a loss earlier in the season to Beat Me Solly, the only win Solly has notched over Moose in 4 seasons. For the 6th and final time this week we'd see a close battle thanks to the shortened week as Moose managed to grab 4 of 7 offensive categories but lose 4 of 7 pitching categories. The playoff hunting Solly would be forced to settle with a draw against the bottom in the division as the week ends at 7-7-0.
With 4 draws on the week there wasn't a lot of change in the standings this week. Bananas Division leader Army got a 2 W victory over Dev picking up 2 Gs on 2nd place Dev and 1 G on the rest of the league. Meanwhile Cupcakes Division leader Lucky too a 2 W loss losing a game in the standings to all his chasers and seeing his lead over 2nd fall to a mere 5 Gs. But the real change of the week came in the overall standings as the 4 G difference between Lucky and Army was enough to bridge the gap and leave them in a tie for 1st place in the league. This made it Week 15 the first time since Week 1 that anyone other than Lucky had a hold on 1st place overall. MKid holds onto a playoff spot giving the Cupcakes Division 4 of 6 playoff teams for the 6th week in a row, but climbs past Dev to have the FIFTH best record in the league giving the Cupcakes 4 of the top 5 spots.
Playoff Standings
In the vs. league average tables, 0.00 is the league average. Anything more than 1.00 either positive or negative is very strong (or weak if negative). Once you get up (or down) near 2.00 it's a number that lends itself to being a statistical anomaly and is due to come back to the pack sooner or later.
Catching Up On What We Missed
The trades lines were busy over the last two weeks as Moose made no less than FIVE trades while Grover started opening his doors. First Moose as he moved Alex Rodriguez (3B - NYY), Adam Lind (LF - TOR), Victor Martinez (C - CLE), AJ Burnett (SP - NYY), Bobby Jenks (RP - CHW), and Alexei Ramirez (2B, SS - CHW) for Jeff Niemann (SP - TAM), Jake Fox (RF - CHC), Fernando Rodney (RP - DET), Eric Hosmer (1B - KC), a 2nd Rder, a 4th Rder, an 8th Rder, a 10th Rder, and a 12th Rder. A dramatic set of departures for the last place Bananas team with an impressive return putting him in great position for 2010 with 16 picks in the top 12 Rds and 6 in the top 4.
Meanwhile Grover made only one trade but it was a huge one moving Ian Kinsler (2B - TEX), Javier Vazquez (SP - ATL), Trevor Hoffman (RP - TAM), and a 16th Rder to Dev for Buster Poser (C - BAL), Jordan Schaefer (OF - ATL), Wade Davis (SP - TAM), a 2nd Rd pick in the 2010 minor league pick and a FIRST round pick in the main draft. A trade that gives Grover a tremendous head jump on the 2010 season as well as a stacked minor league system and dramatically improves Dev's 2009 team at the cost of his 1st Rd pick next season.
The surprising part of this run of trades is that ALL of them were made with Bananas teams. Solly picked up Victor Martinez and Alexei Ramirez, GM added A-Rod and Adam Lind, Army added AJ Burnett and Bobby Jenks, while Dev got Ian Kinsler, Javier Vazquez, and Bobby Jenks. Along with the earlier trade Dev made to grab Tori Hunter, Paul Konerko, and Marco Scutaro the face of the Bananas division has changed dramatically over the last few weeks. With 5 teams currently playing for 2 spots and chasing a 3rd currently held by the Cupcakes division the competition just got a lot fiercer. Meanwhile the Cupcakes Division remains largely unchanged as 4 playoff teams jockey for position with what got them there (not to mention trying to hold onto a 4th playoff spot).
Oddly enough despite these moves Moose has gone 1-0-1 since his first trade and Grover ended his losing streak after his big move.

Interleague play resumes! 3 more weeks of interleague play as we head into the final divisional run and the trade deadline in Week 18! After the first 5 weeks the two leagues were locked in an 11-11-2 tie for the season battle of bragging rights. This week will see Cupcakes leader Lucky take his undefeated interleague record up against Dev and his 2 week losing streak. Pun gets to try to topple a 2nd division leader in 2 weeks as he gets the Bananas division leader Army, a team Pun has NEVER lost to in 6 meetings. Solly locks up against MKid in an important matchup as despite being in the other division MKid holds the 4th playoff spot for the Cupcakes division, the one the Bananas teams are looking to take back. GM and Mikey face off as Mikey looks to continue his run on 1st in the division and league while GM keeps trying to fight his way back into the playoff race. AA is now 9.5 behind the playoffs and fighting to stay in things and he gets Grover this week in a chance to get fat against the worst in the league. And finally Vols takes an undefeated record in interleague play up against Moose who has some managed not to lose in 2 weeks since selling off his team. This is the serious crunch time as teams' seasons end and players become firesalers. Not to mention the continuing bragging rights between leagues.
