Some changes in format and a couple of new additions in the head-to-head numbers and playoff standings (although nothing too revolutionary). Let me know if things are too numbery/boxscore like. I LIKE box scores and that sort of stuff so I'm inclined to move more in that direction, but at the same time there's a reason TSN went from that format to the SI narrative based that's more popular. I'm trying to find a middle ground between interesting numbers and narratives but I don't know if I have.
And I'll add Mikey's stats when I get them. Insomnia and a head start let me finish this one early so I might as well put it up now (especially since its been done since like 6:30 this morning).
The All-Star weekend shortened match-ups led to 4 ties and very little movement in the standings, but the 2 non-ties were big ones. Pun upset Cupcakes leader Lucky allowing the entire division to move up the standings while Bananas leader Army knocked off the 2nd place Dev, not only putting further distance between him and the pack but also climbing into a tie at the top of the league with Lucky for best overall record. Dev's lost also allowed MKid to move past him in the overall standings to give the Cupcakes League 4 of the top 5 spots in the league.
Dev's Jersey ColdFusion (104-93-13) vs. Lucky's Spreadsheet Studs (114-83-13)
This is their first and only match-up this season. Dev leads the all-time series 3-2-1.
Last week's only two losers face off both looking to get back on the winning track (and get free of Army). Going into the weekend Lucky held the 7-5-2 lead in large part thanks to leading 6 of 7 offensive categories with 7 SB, 30 RBI, 28 R, a .280 AVG, .964 OPS, and a whopping 13 HRs. Dev was staying in it however with a 3.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 4-0 W-L record. The two would go back and forth as the week progressed with Dev adding 2 HLD to win that category and Lucky picking up 3 Ws to break that tie. The difference maker ended up being SB where Dev doubled his Thursday total to finish with 12 and flip that category over to his side. Despite 21 HRs Lucky just couldn't make enough headway into any of Dev's stats and couldn't keep or build his lead. And the final blow came late into Sunday night when Dev managed to draw even with Lucky in RBI turning the contest around and notching a 7-6-1 win. This would be Lucky's first loss to a Bananas team this season and second in a row while Dev ends his 2 week losing streak.
Pun's It Byrne's When I Peavy (72-120-18) vs. Army's Balad Shithooks (113-82-15)
This is their first and only match-up this season. Pun leads the all-time series 5-0-1.
The only two men to pick up wins last week face off this as Pun looks to make it two upsets in a row over division leaders and Army looks to sit alone on top of the league. No upset in the cards going into the weekend as Army lead 10-2-2 thanks not only to an impressive offensive display (26 R, 7 HR, 25 RBI, .327 AVG, .964 OPS) but also to an absent offensive performance that saw Pun with only 5 RBI and 0 HR. Pun was however staying alive with the pitching categories including 0 Ls, a 1.00 WHIP, and drawing even with Army with a stellar 2.92 ERA. Pun would add 7 HRs over the weekend but the poor performance of the week was too much to overcome as Army matched his number, doubling his own. And to make matters worse Pun's ERA would jump more than a full run giving Army yet another notch in the win column. With a score of 11-3-0 Army picks up his first ever victory over Pun in 4 years of competition while Pun remains winless in inter-league play.
MKid's Dual National Champions (103-90-17) vs. Beat Me Solly (101-97-12)
This is their first and only match-up this season. MKid leads the all-time series 2-1-1.
MKid holds the playoff spot Solly has been chasing despite competing in another league making this a matchup with big playoff implications. But going into the weekend neither team seemed destined to grab an edge as Solly led with a mere 7-6-1 score. MKid held a strong hold on the offensive side of things with 28 R (to 18), 8 HR (2), 33 RBI (24), a .313 AVG (.274), and a .909 OPS (.789). But Solly flipped things around holding 6 of 7 pitching categories thanks a 2.64 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 2 HLD, and a 4-1 W-L. Solly would add only 1 more HR over the weekend ending with a meager 3 total and only barely avoiding being swept on the offensive side by 3 Ks. But on the pitching side Solly would win the 7th category, Losses, only to see MKid take WHIP from him and the steal Ks from Solly by a score of 52-51! MKid scrapes by with the 8-6-0 win extending his undefeated streak to 5 weeks.
GM's Comerica National Park (99-101-10) vs. Mikey's Blue Sox (108-87-15)
This is their first of 2 match-ups this season. The all-time series is tied at 2-2-0.
Mikey climbed within 5 of the Cupcakes lead last week, the closest he's been since Week 7, while GM fell back to 6.5 behind the playoffs. GM went into the weekend with the big lead 10-3-1 thanks to a 3.51 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, .329 AVG, and .975 OPS while Mikey came in with only 2 Hrs on the week and already with 5 Ls. 7 HRs for Mikey would see a marked improvement but not enough to pass GM's 14 total, nor would his offense manage to take back any other categories except his 5 SB on the weekend letting him turn that tie into a win 11-9. But that would be it for Mike as he failed to pick up any saves on the week and couldn't turn any of the pitching categories. That left the week a devastating blow as GM wins by a score of 10-4-0 and Mikey loses for the first time in 5 weeks.
AA's 3-Time! 3-Time! 3-Time! (94-102-14) vs. Grover's New Day Co-Op (74-122-14)
This is their first and only match-up this season. AA leads the all-time series 2-1-0.
Grover's season is long over but AA's desperately trying to keep his going as he sits 9.5 games out of the playoffs with 3 teams to pass. Going into the weekend, though, AA was only able to notch a tie with Grover 7-7-0 in a very close battle that saw AA leading by 1 R, 3 HRs, 1 W, and .016 OPS points. Neither team's offense was stepping up as AA led ERA 7.20 to 9.33 and WHIP 1.84 to 1.96, but doing so with 45 IP compared to only 18.1 from Grover. Things would only go downhil for AA as the week continued. As Grover started to rack up innings he was able to drop his ERA almost 4 Rs, his WHIP almost .5 pts, and add 2 Ws... none of those terribly impressive numbers but good enough to take 3 categories from AA. And on the offensive side it was more of the same as Grover picked up 21 Rs and and boosted his OPS just enough to take back a total of 5 categories over the weekend. AA managed to minimize the damage tying SB at 5 and grabbing 2 SVs to take that category from Grover. But all it would do would lessen the blow as Grover picks up only his 2nd win of the season 10-3-1, both against the Bananas League.
Moose's OneEyed Jacks (89-109-12) vs. Vols' Schwetty Vols (107-92-11)
This is their first and only match-up this season. Moose leads the all-time series 5-1-0.
Moose has managed not to lose in the 2 weeks since starting his firesale and has managed to only fall to Vols once in all their matchups, but this season he faces the hottest team in the League. Going into the weekend Vols led 10-2-2 with a stellar 2.94 ERA and 1.16 WHIP and holding 6 of 7 offensive categories, with only a 5-5 tie at HR not being his. Vols would change that over the weekend taking the HR category 12-11 in what would be a heartbreaking close sweep of the offensive categories as Moose would lose Rs, HRs, and RBIs by only 1 and Ks by 2. Moose would add a HLD to grab that category for himself but it would be too little as despite being as close as anyone could be Vols ends up demolished him by a very deceptive 11-3-0 score. Vols defeats Moose for only the 2nd time in 4 years of competition and remains undefeated in inter-league play.
When the first 5 weeks of interleague play rounded up the two divisions were tied 13-13-4. The Cupcakes League won out this week 3-3-0 and now with each team having faced each other once the Leagues remain even at 16-16-4. Of interesting note Vols and Lucky are a combined 9-1-2 in inter-league play with Army being responsible for 2 of those non-wins. Meanwhile Pun remains winless to help balance out the Cupcakes League from dominating.
[/center]
A week after Army drew even with Lucky for 1st overall he finds himself alone at the top by 4.5 Gs thanks to Lucky's loss. Despite the win that made it happen Dev falls further back in the division 3.5 Gs and Army has a commanding 13.5 lead in the division. Lucky's barely holding on to the Cupcakes lead. Mikey's loss drops him to 7.5 back but the surging Vols passed him for 2nd and is nipping at Lucky's heels at 3.5 Gs back. Meanwhile MKid moves up another spot in the standings to a tie for 4th overall and 3rd in the division, 7.5 back of Lucky. That leaves Dev still in 6th place overall with the last playoff spot, 1.5 Gs behind Mkid and Mike.
Solly takes another hit going from 3.5 behind the playoffs to 5 back and a whopping 18.5 behind Army. GM's big win pushes him past Solly in the rankings into 7th and 4 Gs back of the playoffs. Meanwhile AA takes a devastating blow falling 13.5 Gs behind the playoffs and in real danger of falling entirely out of the playoff race.
In largely meaningless races Moose remains 20 Gs out of the playoffs and 33.5 behind the division. Grover's big win pulls him out of last place and only 6.5 Gs behind Moose but safely out of competition at 26.5 Gs out of the playoffs. And Pun sits alone in last place a whopping 33 Gs out of the playoffs.
In the vs. league average tables, 0.00 is the league average. Anything more than 1.00 either positive or negative is very strong (or weak if negative). Once you get up (or down) near 2.00 it's a number that lends itself to being a statistical anomaly and is due to come back to the pack sooner or later.
Moose wasn't done moving parts as at the start of the week he moved Hideki Okajima (RP - BOS) and Fernando Rodney (RP - DET) - who he grabbed from Army last week in a trade - to Solly for Shane Victorino (OF - PHI) and a 14th Rd pick. Victorino was taken in the 5th Rd of the draft so is not available to Moose as a keeper but the 14th Rd pick adds to his collection giving him 19 picks in the top 14 Rds. Meanwhile the arms game between the Bananas Division continued as Solly kept going adding Alfonso Soriano (LF - CHC) on Sunday from Pun in exchange for Luke Scott (LF - BAL) and his 9th Rd pick. Solly has built a stacked roster of talent in trades but at significant cost to his draft next season as he currently has only 3 picks between Rds 8 and 14 but the question is will it all be worth it when the season ends, or will he see too many more weeks like this and let his playoff chances dwindle?
Longest Winning Streak - Vols, 5 Weeks (W7 - W11); Current: Army, 2 Weeks (W15 - W16)
Longest Losing Streak - Grover, 5 Weeks (W1 - W5); AA, 5 Weeks (W2 - W6); Grover, 5 Weeks (W10 - W14); Current: Lucky, 2 Weeks (W15 - W16)
Longest Undefeated Streak - Lucky, 8 Weeks (W5 - W12); Current: MKid, 5 Weeks (W12 - W16)
Longest Winless Streak - Grover, 8 Weeks (W1 - W8); Current: - Lucky, 4 Weeks (W13 - W16)
We're almost finished with the grand experiment as the 2nd to last week of inter-league play is up and teams teams lock up for the 2nd time this season. Lucky's lost 3 of his last 4 and won't have an easy path to getting back in the winning ways against GM. AA gets a chance to keep his playoff hopes alive and pick up some ground as he faces off against last place Pun. Dev's closer to MKid in the standings than Army at this stage and he'll get a chance to solidify his playoff spot this week as he goes for his 2nd win of the season over Kid, although Kid has a 5-2-0 record lifetime against him. Mikey once again looks to rebound and make a charge on 1st in the Cupcakes League against Moose who he's 6-3-0 against lifetime including a win earlier this season. And finally the top team in the league Army gets another opportunity to beef up his lead as he takes on Grover who is coming off only his 2nd win of the season. Lots of close playoff races going on as well as bragging rights as either league tries to gain an edge in inter-league competition. With the trade deadline in only 2 1/2 weeks its make or break time for some owners while others are fighting for rankings (and money).
And I'll add Mikey's stats when I get them. Insomnia and a head start let me finish this one early so I might as well put it up now (especially since its been done since like 6:30 this morning).
Last Week
The All-Star weekend shortened match-ups led to 4 ties and very little movement in the standings, but the 2 non-ties were big ones. GM's Comerica National Park (99-101-10) vs. Mikey's Blue Sox (108-87-15)
This is their first of 2 match-ups this season. The all-time series is tied at 2-2-0.

This Week
