Last Week
A new #1 in the Bananas Division, a charging #2 in Cupcakes, and two teams climbed out of their divisions last week so a lot of momentum looking to be kept in week 5 as each team finished a tour through its division with its 5th opponent in the opening 5 weeks.
Cupcakes Division
Lucky's Spreadsheet Studs took their first loss of the season last week but managed to hold onto 1st place in the division but was looking to rebound against Vols' Schwetty Vols who came into Week 5 one of two teams yet to record a Losing week. Lucky held a slight 7-5-2 lead going into the weekend that saw every category still in contention. But a big weekend for Lucky with 9 HRs, 28 RBI, 30 K, 3 Ws, and 5 SVs would make the close competition look like a distance. By the end of the weekend 9 categories could be counted as easy wins and Lucky ended Vols' undefeated run with a decisive 11-2-1 win.
MKid's Dual National Champions came away with their first W of the season in Week 4 and looking to continue the momentum against the struggling team of Pun's It Byrne's When I Peavy. MKid would dominate most of the week and head into Friday with a 12-2-0 lead thanks to big numbers on both sides of the game including 12 HRs, a .921 OPS, a 2.55 ERA, and a 5-0 W-L record. Pun's pitching would make a weekend charge adding up 6 Ws to top MKid and dropping his ERA withing 2 tenths of a run, but in the end MKid held up and notched his second win in a row 10-2-2.
Tarheel's Blue Sox ended Lucky's winning streak last week and was looking to gain more ground on the division lead this. His opponent is the winless Grover's New Day Co-Op trying to avoid being swept by the division in the first go around. Unfortunately for Grover the theme of the week for the Cupcakes was domination and this matchup was no different as Mike entered the weekend up 12-2-0 and finished it 10-4-0 thanks to a monster offensive performance with 55 R, 20 HR, 61 RBI, 11 SB, a .309 AVG, and a .947 OPS. Grover's struggles unfortunately continued despite wracking up 7 Saves.
Bananas Division
One of two losing streaks had to end when Army's Balad Shithooks came in having lost 2 straight facing off against AA's 3-Time! 3-Time! 3-Time! having lost 3 straight. Things were close going in the weekend with Army holding an 8-6-0 lead. The weekend would see Army add 9 HRs to take the HR and OPS categories but AA would pick up 40 Ks and drop his WHIP to 1.13 to grab that category. 5 Ws over the weekend for a total of 7 wouldn't be enough for AA to top Army's 8 though and 7 SB proved useless against a whopping 15 SB from Army (6 alone from Coco Crisp). Army would walk out the weekend with the same score he went in, 8-6-0.
New division leader Dev's Jersey ColdFusion would take on the slow climbing Moose's OneEyed Jacks, neither team having suffered a loss since Week 1. A very close battle on Friday saw Moose with a narrow 6-5-3 lead over Dev. Dev would double his RBI numbers over the weekend and take AVG from Moose while Moose would take the L, SV, and HLD categories over the weekend. In the end both teams managed to maintain their unbeaten streaks thanks to a 7-7-0 tie.
Finally Beat Me Solly looked to rebound from losing the division lead against
GM's Comerica National Park but would enter into Friday down 7-5-2. A horrible 11 L and 6.59 ERA pitching performance would make it an uphill battle for Solly but 11 SB, 56 Rs, and 53 RBIs would be a start to fighting back. Unfortunately for the former division leader 19 HRs, a .300 AVG, and a .914 OPS was more than enough to nail down the narrow victory as GM would walk away the 7-6-1 winner.
Standings
The big winners of the week all came out of the Cupcakes division. Lucky's 11 Ws would gain him 1.5 Gs on the lead while Mike would 1.5 on 3rd Place. MKid's victory would put him up over .500 for the first time this season and into 3rd for the division while Vols would fall below .500 and go from 4.5 back of 1st to 13.5. But Pun and Grover would also fall further back into the hole a whopping 18.5 and 19 Gs out of 1st.
On the Bananas side of things Dev would hold onto 1st place but Army would drive into a 2nd place tie with Solly, both 5 Gs back in the division. GM and Moose both continued their slow climbs up to .500 with GM picking up half a game in the standings. AA remains on the bottom of the division.
Five weeks through means the divisions have all faced off against each other and early weekly records look like this. I'll make this pretty some other time.
Team | W | L | T |
Mike | 4 | 0 | 1 |
Lucky | 4 | 1 | 0 |
Vols | 2 | 1 | 2 |
Dev | 2 | 1 | 2 |
GM | 2 | 1 | 2 |
Moose | 2 | 1 | 2 |
MKid | 2 | 2 | 1 |
Solly | 2 | 2 | 1 |
Army | 2 | 2 | 1 |
Pun | 1 | 4 | 0 |
AA | 1 | 4 | 0 |
Grover | 0 | 5 | 0 |
Mikey's Stats
In the vs. league average tables, 0.00 is the league average. Anything more than 1.00 either positive or negative is very strong (or weak if negative). Once you get up (or down) near 2.00 it's a number that lends itself to being a statistical anomaly and is due to come back to the pack sooner or later.
This Week
Division rivals will face off for the 2nd of 3 times this season. In the Bananas division that means the division leader Dev facing off against his Week 2 opponent AA. Dev won the first matchup this season and has yet to lose one since, meanwhile that was the first a 4 week losing streak for AA that he hopes to end the same place it started. Tied at 2nd Army and Solly will face off after splitting their matchup in Week 2, a result Solly might live with after a 2 Week losing streak since falling out of the top spot. And Moose and GM also managed to draw a tie in W2 but with both men coming off W5 Ws they'd like to continue their momentum.
On the Cupcakes side Grover is dealing with 5 straight losses to start the season and he's going to attempt to break that run against the division leader Lucky. Mike carries the only undefeated record in the league and will try to continue that against Pun who he defeated in W2. And finally Vols will attempt to recover from his first L of the season while MKid will seek his 3rd in a row, the two teams having tied in W2.
