Bolt Action is a fun group, but Guardians is pretty much my fanboy dream. I wish they were up against a team I like less (there are plenty still in this) but that doesn't mean I'd really call it *close*.

I theorize that my team is set in the 21st Century. While this demands some time travel, it is Vance's home where he just came back because those bitches froze his ass and left him to be eaten by lizards. And Wildfire? That fucker just got turned into a statue in Superman's Fortress of Solitude. Then when the Legion was all "LETS GO FLY THROUGH TIME SOME MORE TOTALLY FUCKING WITH REALITY AND DOING WHAT EVER WE WANT NO MATTER HOW HARD IT IS TO FOLLOW LALALALALA!" he said "Fuck it" and hung around.

So that's my story. My team may have required a little time travel to come together but they're together BECAUSE of their united stance that time travel is gay.

It's entirely up to each voter. If someone hadn't read comics since before The Illuminati and World War Hulk and they didn't care what happened during and after those events, they'd likely have no problem with a Hulk/Black Bolt pairing. For me, I knew what had happened, so the pairing made no sense to me. You could say the characters came from before it happened, but I still know it happened, and it would still bug me.

But I'm a big jerk.

Figured that it was left to the voter since you can try to write up stories about your team and put some sense into them, but most people don't give a shit about that and just vote on how they see it (vs how the guy that made the team sees it).

I'm just a sore looser... and just for argument sakes, how can DC and Marvel mix if we take into account previous storyline.

I think you just need to not try and get too hung up on it. If you try and rationalize this stuff too much it all falls apart. And that's ME saying that. LUCKY is telling you not to read too deep into it. So you know that means something. I don't even think about it, really. I look at my team and if it pasts the logic test with me I go with it. Someone else might see something I didn't see or might weigh something more than someone else, but I can't really control that. I can be smart and realize if there's something MAJOR that it probably will impact people's opinions, but in the end you can't control how someone sees your team.

I'm obviously very analytical about the teams on the surface but that really is just me looking at it and saying "Do they make sense?" and giving my first impressions. If discussions get deeper then I think about it more. But you can't control it. For example, Black Bolt/Hulk was a less of an issue to me than Phoenix/Gladiator. Bolt/Hulk is a big deal, naturally, but its also a recent one which I haven't read the real impact of so it resonates less with me. Phoenix/Gladiator is one of the most talked about and historic stories in comic book history which decades of canon and character work have built off of, so that one hits me more. But someone else is bound to have the exact opposite reaction, taking the recent thing as more impactful since the characters are still feeling the affect where has some shit that happened 40 years ago is whatever.

I mean, should Batman be dead? You're just going to do what you want with the characters. Whether your audience buys into it isn't a matter of them not "playing by the rules" or anything. Look at it simply. I'm on record as saying I judge these teams by thinking of it as "Bolt Action #1" on the comic shelf and wondering if I want to read this new book. Well extend that metaphor. Grant Morrison or Geoff Johns can do whatever they want with characters. They can reinvent them, retcon them, change their characterization, whatever they deem fit for the story they want to tell. But whether you and I buy into their premise or reject it as the author over reaching his bounds or writing against the nature of the characters or ignoring important continuity? That's on the individual. And Morrison couldn't say "No, I know Magneto is seen a certain way but I decided to cast him as a megalomaniac mass murderer so anyone who didn't just accept that wasn't giving it a fair chance." He's just being a whiner making excuses for the fact that he wrote something that millions of people rejected based upon the character they knew and enjoyed.
