*South Beach, Florida*
A press conference has been set up just outside one of the exclusive clubs in South Florida. Olympic Gold Medalist Shawn Johnson is standing at the podium as media members and invited guests are taking their seats.
OGM SJ: Thank you all for coming. We do not have a lot of time today so there will be very few questions as our guests of honor have to get back on their mandatory cruise. But for today, they will be making some introductions. And speaking of introductions, let's all greet the co-owners of Darling Wrestling International; here are current OOWF World Heavyweight Champion Alexander Darling and rising OOWF Tag Team Superstar Alexis Darling.
The Darling twins make their way out from backstage to mild cheers and take up spots on opposite sides of the stage in front of podiums.
Alexis: Thank you Shawn. Let's start with the basics since we don't have a lot of time. This is the third year in a row that the wrestling world has been thrown into upheaval and a re-distribution of the world's wrestlers, past and present has happened.
Alexander: The first year, Alexis and I tried to compete with everyone else with a typical, vanilla idea. We had some success with it, but it wasn't exactly what we had hoped. We had some great talent, but it didn't come together like we had hoped. And then last year, we went into this with a specific game plan. We stayed in the background, found a mutual investor with Stephanie McMahon, and went to work on enlightening the world that women's wrestling was a legitimate enterprise. We didn't succeed as much as we wanted, but we do feel we opened up a new fanbase. The World Women's Wrestling was something Alexis and I strongly believed in and given the chance to do something like it again, we would.
Alexis: But this year we did want to go a different direction. We came into the draft with 2 ideas depending on how certain things happened. Falling to 19th in the draft lottery really put a damper on what we planned on doing. But we are nothing if not flexible and we worked early to put an idea into place. We made an early trade to move up in the first and we grabbed someone both Alex and I agreed on was one of the best talents in the draft. We drafted the Rated R Superstar Edge. Coming around the bend in the 2nd round is where Alex and I agree we made a mistake.
Alexander: And it wasn't so much a mistake as a regrettable decision. We got to our pick in the 2nd round and one of the best wrestlers in the world was sitting there. AJ Styles is one of the great talents and we felt it would have been a disservice to pass him up. But by doing so, we allowed Edge's partner, Christian, to be taken by a competitor. It was a decision we expected, but we knew we had a backup in plan. Someone most people despise would have worked as a partner for Edge.
Alexis: At this point, if you haven't figured it out...Alexander and I had agreed that our first card and the basis of our entire federation would be tag teams highlighted by a newly bought Crockett Cup that has since be renamed the Darling Cup. So, back to Edge...we had a plan in mind for both and Mr. Styles, but when an Ultimate Jobber surprised us by taking Randy Orton about 15-20 picks higher than we expected, it through a wrinkle into our plans.
Alexander: And like Alexis said, we are nothing if not flexible. Once we lost our idea for Edge and his role in our Darling Cup, we moved on and traded him for numerous picks which we could use to bolster our depth. And right after we made the decision to move Edge, we felt as if AJ Styles' options as partner weren't going to be up to par with what we expected to be able to do. So, we looked around and found a willing partner to make a move for AJ and we believe we really bolstered our quality depth with regards to tag teams. We may not have the high-profile names our competition has, but what we will have is the best tag team wrestling that is possible.
Alexis: Not only that, but we do have some surprises in store for the future of this draft and the future of DWI as a whole. But without further adieu, let's introduce the roster we have so far.
