Was it ever known whyt he does this? The tiny cup thing? I have my own theory and it involves one of his co-stars in a huge movie that basically does the same thing in a scene for one second.

No clue. But I always thought it was one of the funniest things that was never talked about in the movie. I always thought since he was King of the Mall, that was his way about getting free soda. It was a tiny sample size cup, so he would get free soda, as opposed to if he walked in with a Big Gulp cup and asked for a refill. What movie did a co-star do it in?

If memory serves, it happened with Michael Rooker in JFK. Jim Garrison decides to re-open the case and towards the beginning of the film, Bill Broussard, Jim Garrison and...... I forgot Jay O. Sanders characters name........meet in New Orleans on a Sunday morning. Broussard (Rooker) has a cup of coffee that's tiny and I thought that it lead to the tiny cup in Mallrats gag. I could be wrong. And I've seen JFK about 12 times and it wasn't untill the last time that I watched it that I noticed it.

If I remember correctly, according to Kevin Smith in the commentary track, Brodie was loosely modeled after Walt Flannagin, a friend of his. Walt used to carry around a cup from another restaurant and just fill it up wherever he went. I haven't watched the commentary in a while, so I could be off on that. Solly can help me.

I may have to go with Pun's idea. I always thought it was something along those lines. Being a gimmick of one of Kev Smith's buddies. I've actually never seen JFK before, so I can't confirm nor deny Creepy's idea. I have been meaning for years to see JFK, but it always seems to slip lower on my netflix when new stuff comes out.

For what it's worth, the real Walt Flannagin is the "Tell 'em Steve-Dave!" guy in all his movies.

JFK is one of my favorite movies. It might even be number one. I'm sure it's 80% bullshit but it just entertains the heck out of me.

Oh, and I guess Pun solved that one. Nice catch. I need to watch Mallrats again, it's been years. Those first three he did were awesome. Haven't cared for anything after Chasing Amy, though.

The first 3 were the best, but Clerks II was a very good bookend to the series. I'm not saying this as a Kevin Smith mark, but the scene with Randall and Dante in the jail towards the end was extremely well done and may be my favorite scene out of any of his movies.

And if you get a chance to watch Mallrats with the commentary track, I highly recommend it. Affleck is funnier in that than any movie he's ever done.

See, I've never loved Mallrats or Chasing Amy that much. I'd much rather watch Clerks 2 or Dogma and as bad as Jay & Silent Bob was, I kinda think it's supposed to be. The entire movie is basically about selling out and that's what it was. A sellout movie to get Jay another payday and try to get him off the smack.

The Clerks commentary is pretty solid too. I think there's 5 or 6 people on it. With that amount of people, you'd think a lot of talk would be drowned out by others, but that's not the case. Also I think Jason Mewes was pass out for the whole movie, and they kept on making fun of him. I think he woke up a few times during the movie so say random shit.
