When the aid-worker daughter of Ex-SAS turned freelance special ops instructor Trevor Goodknight(Michael Caine) goes missing after a coup in the small eastern european country of Trislepvakia, he assembles a team made up of former pupils and friends to help him go find her, only to discover an old enemy with a grudge is running the operation.
The Good Guys:
Michael Caine as Trevor Goodknight, team leader.
Gerard Butler as Robert Hamilton, Goodknight's oldest pupil
Bruce Lee as Law, special operative formerly for the Hong Kong government. Specialises in hand to hand combat and stealth.
Michael Clarke Duncan as Freddie Gunn, former US Army Ranger and the group's muscle.
Ryan Reynolds as Nick "GreenLight" Lightman, an MIT-Alumni hacker who was caught inside the NSA Database, and worked for the State to avoid prison, due to Goodknight's recommendation. Doesn't just handle the computer stuff, but also builds and modifies the hardware too with unique upgrades. Comic relief.
Michelle Rodriguez as Bianca Montoya, all-purpose vehicle pilot/driver. Cars, trucks, bikes, tanks, planes, choppers, trains, you name it, she can tame it. Argues with GreenLight constantly for his unwanted modifications to her stuff.
The Bad Guys
Lance Henriksen as Alfred Frostad. Former Delta Force member who Goodknight exposed selling state secrets. Escaped custody and became international mercenary for hire. Took the current job specifically to allow him the opportunity to capture Goodknight's daughter.
Rutger Hauer as Eric Frostad. Alfred's younger, crazier brother. Not possessing an official "rank" within the group, but he is a formidable fighter and torturer. If Alfred didn't bring him along, he'd probably burn down any civilised city he was left in.
Bill Duke as Henry King. Career soldier of fortune, with no morals to speak of. Doesn't enjoy doing bad things, exactly. He just doesn't care, and would blow up a school if he thought it was blocking his objective
Til Schweiger as Karl Braun. He's that guy who just does his job and is quiet at the start, but as it becomes more and more obvious that his boss is making a big personal mission out of this thing, he'll speak up and demand he "stop playing games, and just kill them now!", only to get shot down by the boss, possibly even have a knife held to his throat by Eric. King actually agrees with him, philosophically, but respects the chain of command more to not really push it as far. His "I told you so!" factor means that in the climax, as things are coming down around the bad guys, he'll be really pissed off and beating the shit out of one of Goodknight's team in the initial stages of the fight before dying.
