Ok, this idea will either be enjoyed or completely hated, but here goes:

• Draft a football team consisting of comic book heroes and villains.
  
• 24 positions: 1 head coach, 5 offensive linemen, 1 quarterback, 1 tailback, 1 fullback, 1 tight end, 2 wide receivers, 4 defensive linemen, 3 linebackers, 4 defensive backs, 1 kicker. (Could also give wiggle room for those who might want 3 WR's and no TE... or run a 3-4 defense rather than a 4-3.)
  
• Eligibility the same as the other drafts. Must have appeared in comic books first.
  
• Voting to be based on player abilities at each position rather than on team "chemistry".

Yeah, Hodgey pointed out the crossover on here between football fans and comic fans is probably limited. If we got 6 or 8 willing to take a stab at it, I'd be happy.

Depending on when. I'll need to invest more time in this one since my comic knowledge is somewhat limited compared to some of you, and my Football knowledge is far from what it used to be, but I know the positions, so I don't see this aspect as being a big negative factor.

Definitely not any time before Monday. And probably not at least until the Monday after that. Like I said, I'd really like 6-8 people up for this. Might be willing to do it with 4 as long as the 4 of us feel it would be a nice diversion.

And also, any thoughts on the way I laid out the positions? I mean I know there are hundreds of different formations, but those are pretty standard. Maybe 5 linemen, 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR's, and 2 WR/TE/FB on offense?

I have NO idea how this would even work. What makes a good quarterback with regards to comic characters? How would you decide who should be a linebacker or a safety? Just give me an example here or something.

Well given Spider-Man's quickness and agility, I'd say he would fit well as a defensive back.

Blob seems an obvious choice for an offensive lineman.

Thor is bigger and strong and hits hard, so linebacker seems like a good fit, to me.

And most on here would probably agree that Batman would fit nicely as a quarterback, using his athleticism and quick decision-making ability to lead the offense down the field.

In thinking further on this, it might be necessary to draft the gimmick rather than the person under the mask. Otherwise everybody might have Flash as their tailback, and that would be dumb.

OK, Dev got me thinking and it makes no sense really... You pick Juggernaut for running back, and it's touchdown every time he gets the ball... (he can'T be stopped once in movement right).
You could make arguments like that for a ton of heroes/villains.

Theoretically, yes. But somebody like Scarlet Witch could just make the entire defense disappear, too.

My "idea" would be slotting them into positions based on their relative strengths and weaknesses, not necessarily taking their powers into full consideration. Like slotting Thor in at linebacker because of his size and strength, not because he would cast lightning upon the ball-handler. Or Spidey as a defensive back because of his smaller stature and agility, not because he could shoot webbing to keep the ball away.

I think it,s one of those think where it's sounds amazing, but it's just to complicated to apply and will turn into a train wreck with Sergei all pissed about people not liking his golden age team that plays with only leather helmets...

Again, not expecting a high turnout of people interested. And I'm more than happy to run it as long as we have at least 4 of us (3 + me). Just a fun "test diversion" to see if we need to refine anything for the possible future "Wrestler Football Team" idea.

I can already tell there will be a lot of stretches at offensive lineman.

So I guess let me know in this thread by Monday or so if you'd be IN.

This makes it far less interesting to me. If you remove their powers, it's essentially just athletic people with names we recognize. If you're going to take the "super" out of "superhero/villain," what's the point?
