A massive crowd has gathered around a podium emblazoned with the WWE logo in Times Square, the heart of New York City in anticipation of what can only be assumed to be a huge announcement by the massive entertainment conglomerate. A hush comes over the crowd as a motorcade of limos pull up and stops near the site of the setup.
Out of the head limo steps Shane McMahon flanked by a security team and he proceeds to walk up to the podium.
Shane: Ladies and gentlemen, you're about to witness wrestling history. Each and every one of you gathered here today is about to be privy to the genesis of a new era in World Wrestling Entertainment. I am extremely pleased to announce that as of today, WWE will be creating a new third brand, entitled WTA; Wrestling's True Alternative. My father has granted me his full blessing in creating what will be perceived by fans to be a more athletic, traditional and wrestling-oriented scope of sports entertainment. (I mean, hey, this is a fantasy wrestling draft, right?)
I am currently in the process of drafting a roster that represents a unique cross-section of the technical, aerial and hard-hitting action you all enjoy in the ring as well as the unique personalities and story-telling you enjoy outside of it. This roster will represent a supreme alternative to the sports entertainment WWE fans are used to enjoying and will provide a counter-balance of a product geared toward our more extremely dedicated fanbase. So without further ado, I would like to introduce to you WTA's first four draft picks and four of the most talented wrestlers the industry has to offer.
The first man that will take the podium is a master manipulator of the highest magnitude. He is one of the most cerebral minds ever to step foot in this business and he is the master of the ever-dangerous DDT. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Jake "The Snake" Roberts
Jake Roberts steps out of one of the limos and approaches the podium with Damien wrapped around his shoulders.
Jake Roberts: Thank you, Shane. You know, at one point in my life I was destined for championship gold. I was focused, determined and deadly, but I let that all get away from me and time just passed me by. I'm extremely excited to have a second chance to achieve the success that eluded me in the past here in TWA.
Suddenly, CM Punk emerges from another of the limos and strides toward the podium shouting "Are you kidding me?" over and over. Punk motions toward the mic, but Jake won't budge. Finally Shane shrugs his shouders and produces a hand-held mic, which he hands to CM Punk
CM Punk: Are you kidding me?! Shane, when you called me up and invited me to be a part of this alternative brand, you promised me nothing but the best athletic competition. You promised me a place where my style of entertainment would reign supreme. You didn't tell me that it'd be spear-headed by a has-been who destroyed his career by giving into temptation and becoming an addict.
Jake has to be restrained by security as Punk continues on. Jake, now held by security no longer has a mic in which to respond.
CM Punk: Hey old man, don't hurt yourself. You might not be able to make it to the bar later if you do. Just in case you didn't know, Jake Roberts. My name is CM Punk. I live a straight edge lifestyle and that means I'm better than you. You've poisoned your body and subsequently poisoned your career and any chance you ever had at becoming a World Champion. So if you have any aspirations of trying to do so once again, my advice for you is to run on back home to the bottle and seek solace in the comfort it brings you because I am the best wrestler in the world and I intend to prove it by becoming World Champion and it damn sure won't be by beating a never-was such as yourself.
Shane McMahon: Well Punk, that's not entirely true. See in my vision of WTA, I have decided that the World Champion will not be determined until I have seen all of the competitors in action. So should I decide that you and Jake are the most worthy of such an opportunity after seeing the roster in action, you just may have to prove it against what you call a never-was.
Jake breaks free of security and chases Punk, who reaches his limo and speeds off, narrowly escaping Roberts' grasp. Roberts dejectedly enters his own limo having lost this battle.
Shane Mcmahon:Continuing on, the next man I'd like to introduce to you is someone you are all familiar with but may know by a different name. You may know him as Daniel Bryan, but in WTA he will be known as "The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson.
The Final Countdown plays as Bryan Danielson steps from his limo to a raucous NYC ovation. Danielson takes the mic.
Bryan Danielson: You know, when I got the call from Shane McMahon inviting me to be a part of an alternative brand for WWE, I jumped at the opportunity to be on board. Most of you don't know this about me because all you've heard is lies and put-downs from WWE's crackjob announce team, but I am considered by most to be the greatest wrestler in the world today. I was trained by the legendary "Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels. I honed my craft for 10 years by facing the best and brightest the United States had to offer as well as by traveling overseas and testing myself internationally. I am eager to prove myself as the best in-ring competitor the WWE has to offer as part of WTA.
William Regal emerges from the final limo, clearly agitated. Danielson motions to Shane to hand him a mic, which he obliges.
William Regal: Aren't you forgetting a part of your life-story, sunshine? What about the part where I mentored you to that level of in-ring greatness. How about the part where my recommendation helped land you a job in the major leagues. Are you forgetting where you came from? Are you forgetting that maybe you're not the best in the world because someone was there to teach you everything that you know?
Bryan Danielson: Ah, come on, William. You know I have no problem with you. Yes, I acknowledge all of the help and advice you've given me along the way. And yes, I believe you're a hell of a wrestler and certainly one of the best in the world. But I also believe that I am THE best in the world and I will stop at nothing to prove that, whether it be against Punk, Jake or even you. But please do not feel disrespected by me in the slightest. Hell, I even wear maroon trunks still as a symbol of your importance to my career as a wrestler.
William Regal: You are not the best wrestler in the world Bryan Danielson, I am and we both know that deep down. I brought you into this company and I will take you out of it if need be. I look forward to proving my superiority in the ring. I trust that you should also look forward to meeting my new protege. He's certainly dying to meet you.
Danielson and Regal engage in an intense stare-down as they are both ushered into their respective limos by security at Shane's behest. Shane takes the podium one more time.
Shane McMahon: Well there you have it folks, that is just a small sample of the level of talent and competition you can come to expect in WTA. In the coming days there will be more details released on both the roster WTA has assembled as well as our first card, "A New Age, A New Alternative." I can't wait until we are able to bring to you what you all have asked for, a true wrestling alternative.
