Dave Meltzer: Didn't Greg Bonessi try something like that last year with the Ultimate Wrestling Championship?

Dana White: Yeah, and "try" is the key word, there. Much like the Affliction fiasco, he wasn't very successful. Sure he reeled in a couple big-name fighters, but mostly they were schmucks nobody had heard of or cared about. He had a buncha goofy fucks, too. Now I'm not gonna sit here and tell you we won't have some flamboyant guys on our fed, but these guys will be able to back it up, as well.

With all that being said, I'm going to take a very hands-off approach to management here. I will now turn things over to my mysterious associate who likes to simply be referred to as "Gator", as he will be handling the general management duties in the NFA.

Gator:Thanks, Dana. As he just said, we're very excited to be launching this new venture. We've acquired the rights to use an 8-sided ring for out matches, and even a full-fledged UFC Octagon for special cage match attractions. We will also be featuring 3 weight classes: Heavyweight, Middleweight, and Lightweight.

We are currently involved in aggressive negotiations to bring some of the hardest-hitting sports entertainers to the NFA, and we will make you all aware of signings and their likely weight class as contracts are finalized. Thanks for your time.

In an effort to differentiate ourselves from the other brands out there, the National Fighting Alliance will be taking another page from the handbook of our UFC colleagues and holding press conferences before each card to announce the matchups and offer photo opportunities for the press.

Draft picks are still coming in, but we've completed our Heavyweight Division. Pen has been put to paper, and today, I am pleased to announce these following matchups for our inaugural event, NFA: Inception.

Kicking things off will be a best 2-of-3 falls match to determine the inaugural NFA Heavyweight Champion... Brock Lesnar vs. Bruno Sammartino.

We here in the NFA aren't above bringing guys in for some casual attention to our product... as long as the guys have legit training to the point they won't be a complete embarrassment. On top of that, these two guys legitimately hate each other, so we're more than happy to fuel that fire.

Now to prove that we don't just let anybody in here, the other management and I have decided to test their commitment by putting them in a Flaming Tables match! Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Danny Bonaduce vs. Dustin Diamond!

I think the one thing that always gets shirtshrift in this draft every year is that creativity is frowned upon unless it fits into the mold of what we see in regular Pro Wrestling.

I think the Cowboys vs. Indians thing Moosey did last year was awesome, but everyone acted like it was a shit sandwich.

Gator's creativity should be rewarded here folks. I mean for fucks sake, it's matches we haven't seen before, in a format that is fresh and creative.

Plus, it's not like he has a Judy Bagwell on a pole match...

If that's your basis for voting against my card, then so be it. Diamond was TOP NOTCH as a heel on CCW, and Bonaduce made you believe he was legitimately psychotic. I knew there might be some backlash over those 2, but I liked the idea of a couple guys going through brutal "initiation-style" matches to see if they're really up for it. I could've gone "cheap" from the celebrity side of things and gone after Kaufman & Mr. T, but I decided to approach things from my general enjoyment of CCW and those guys really stood out to me.

Dustin Diamond defeats Danny Bonaduce
Lots and lots of busted tables, but only 1 was lit on fire. The finish saw a double-stack of flaming tables set up outside the ring near one of the ring posts. Bonaduce had Diamond set up for a top-rope powerbomb, but Diamond used the ropes to block and instead backdropped Bonaduce up and over and through the waiting tables. Surprisingly hot crowd throughout.


Tornado Tag Match (Lightweight)
BxB Hulk & Kiyoshi defeat Scotty 2 Hotty & Grandmaster Sexay
Finish sees Kiyoshi superkick Grandmaster directly into a bridge German suplex from BxB Hulk.

6-Man Tag Match (Middleweight)
No Contest
Commissioner Gator comes out at about the 10-minute mark and calls a halt to things due to lack of effort on the part of the combatants. To set an example to the rest of the roster, he fires Rico & Daniel Puder on the spot.

Tag Team Match (Heavyweight)
Sid & Nathan Jones defeat Sean O'Haire & Mark Jindrak
Jindrak & O'Haire have a major miscommunication about 5 minutes in that remains apparent throughout the rest of the match. O'Haire reaches to tag in Jindrak while he's got Jones laid out on the mat, but Jindrak pulls his hand away and leaves down the ramp. The 2 jaw at each other, allowing Jones to recover and nail O'Haire with a spinning back kick as he turns around. Tag to Sid & they hit the Demolition Decapitation on O'Haire for the win.

No DQ Tag Match (Middlweight)
Muhammad Hassan & Rob Conway defeat Masa Chono & Hiroshi Hase
8 masked men join Hassan & Conway on completely obliterating Chono & Hase in a 10-on-2 beatdown. Gator comes out furious, granting Chono a spot in a #1 Contender's Match on the next card and telling Hassan & Conway that they'll actually have to fight their own battles to the top around here.

Submission Match (Heavyweight)
The Iron Sheik defeats Goldberg
Brutal back-and-forth for about 30 minutes sees both men trying to stretch each other every which way possible. Finish sees Goldberg setting Sheik up for the Jackhammer. Sheik floats over, forearm's Goldberg to the mat from behind, and quickly sinking in the Cobra Clutch. Sheik arches back sharply, and Goldberg taps, deciding it's better to fight another day than be paralyzed.

#1 Contender Fatal 4-Way (Heavyweight)
Bad News Brown & Ron Simmons defeat Yuji Nagata & Killer Kowalski
Brutal and stiff fight throughout. Finish sees Bad News hitting the Ghetto Blaster on Kowalski while Simmons hits Nagata with a running power slam. Ref counts both pins simultaneously. Commissioner Gator comes out yet again to declare that both men will be fighting the winner of the Lesnar/Sammartino match for the title on the next PPV.

Ultimate X Title Match (Lightweight)
Lance Storm & Shane Helms defeat Petey Williams, Shawn Daivari, El Santo, & Jimmy Yang
Lots of technical wrestling and flippy shit as expected. Finish sees both Storm & Helms remove the belt from above the ring at the same time. 1-on-1 match set up for the next PPV.

Triple Threat Title Match (Middleweight)
Kazarian defeats The Great Muta & Lou Thesz
Finish sees Muta having an incapacitatedThesz set up on the top rope for a superplex. When Muta pauses to gesture to the crowd, Kazarian springs up and topples Muta to the floor, then hits the Flux Capacitor for the win. Post-match, Kazarian offers Muta the handshake of respect, only to be met in the face with a spray of green mist.

2-out-of-3 Falls Title Match (Heavyweight)
Brock Lesnar defeats Bruno Sammartino
About 30 minutes of brawling and brutal mat wrestling, and still no falls. At the 32-minute mark, Sammartino maneuvers into a small package for the first fall. Lesnar pops up and catches him in an F-5 for the second fall, and while Bruno is still laid out, Brock immediately heads to the top rope and lands a picture-perfect SSP for the deciding fall. Post match, Brock helps Bruno to his feet and Bruno raises Brock's arm in victory.
