Since I didn't see whether or not there's going to be a Wrestlemania or continuation of the PPV predictions thread here, I thought of a different idea we can do.

For every match I'll create a handicap for each wrestler. Using those odds, we will determine how many points you will receive if you pick the winning wrestler. After the event, we will tabulate total scores and those with the highest total points will win. If this catches on, maybe I'll try to make it a monthly thing.

It's different though because it gives extra points for predicting a less common outcome (like real gambling) and will spread picks out across the spectrum more.

For now, I'm going to go with horse racing odds (4:1, 10:1, etc) instead of sports odds (-180) and see what makes more sense later. So without any further meandering:

Remember: While getting them all correct will ultimately win you this, picking an underdog and getting it right will get you more points ultimately if they actually win.

Hey, yeah, I just saw this too, so I'll try to make it a bit clearer.

There's no money involved so picking with the intent that the odds will be in favor of winning money isn't important in this game.

I just tried to make it on the simplest level so those who know nothing about gambling can be included along with those who have slight to major gambling addictions as well. Basically, the rules are to just pick one option per match and either hope you got them all right or that you picked the correct underdogs so you accumulate the most points possible.

I don't AA got confused. He was just pointing out that the game is kind of silly. In making this about handicaps you made the game about scoring points and not picking winners. 2 guys who get the same number of wins will get 2 different scores and there's a reasonable chance that the "winner" will be determined by points. So he was just pointing out that if its a game about points its an easy one to rig.

I don't see the point of the spreads myself since its purely a gambling thing when we're not gambling. It strikes me as "We're making picks but its not about picking the winners but picking the right winners to score the most points... but its not about points even when points will determine the winner."

What Courtney did to make ties less likely is confidence points-kinda. You just pick winners, but picking the main events is more valuable than picking the opening match.

Everythings pretty much up for change if I decide to do this again if people find a different way they think it'll be good or a problem, etc.

Yeah, it comes down to whoever has the most points, but that'll probably be the person that got either (a) all of them right or (b) took the best chances on something people didn't think would happen. The point of the game is not just to be predictions, but a game of a bit of chance. It's as if we were all betting on the same 5 NCAA games with underdogs/favorites. Yeah, someone could pick all 5 favorites and get 4 right, but some other person can bet 3 games, but have 2 underdogs picked in those and win more money based on how strong the underdog is. That's what I wanted to accomplish.

Just having fun with you, Jetskid. To prevent what I did (or allow it), you need to enforce "buying" of picks. If I make multiple picks for the same match, I have to pay for it. So if I bet all three in the HHH/Cena/Orton match, I "pay" three points. My idea was even if I pay three points, I'm guaranteed three points because that's the lowest odds of the three. I'm guaranteed at least a tie on my investment, which is the best thing a gambler can ask for.
