You all got the PM from Mike and I about the 2011 season and the need for at least three new owners. There's been some conversation about how the new owners would come in. Because we will have multiple new owners, I think we need to make decisions on this quickly. And rather than a democratic vote as we have almost always had, I think we need to do this quick and dirty. So I suggest the following. Unless anyone venomously disagrees and threatens to quit because of it, I suggest:
1) DevSop has the first pick in the draft for winning the consolation title. That was the rule during the 2010 season. We shouldn't take that away from him.
2) The first new owner can choose between one of the three vacant teams or start from scratch. If they start from scratch, they get the No. 2 pick in the draft. But they also have no minor league keepers until the minor league draft in May and they pick their major league keepers starting February 2 after everyone else has locked in theirs.
3) The second and third new owners get the same choice: Start from scratch with the next best draft pick or pick an available vacant team. I hope the first choice of vacant teams will make potential new owners make a decision quickly. This may know the No. 2 draftee down as far as No. 5. I know that kinda sucks, but that would also only happen if all three new owners decide to start from scratch.
4) All other rules stay the same, including the double-barrel minor league keeper evaluation. I will evaluate minor leaguers shortly and list those that either need to be brought up as major league keepers or dropped. Lucky gave us a good review in the summer, and I would say 99 percent of it is correct.
5) If you have a draft pick traded to you by a team that is now vacant, you still get that pick. Mike and I might have to mess with exactly where it will be in the round, but know that you still have that pick.
6) The current condition of all teams is as follows: Rosters are locked. Trades can be made. Minor league keeper status will be evaluated by the end of November. Major league keepers must be announced by each team by February 1, 2011. If necessary, a major league keeper draft will be held for new owners starting February 2. The C&B draft begins February 16, 2011.
7) League payments are due March 1, 2011. There are no exceptions. I swear I will hunt down and rip the entry fee out of someone's dying hands to make sure winners are paid this year. Mikey's already said he'd do the torturing. Right, Mikey?
Any questions, fire them right here. I really want to keep this league going, and promise to have an active role as co-commissioner during the winter to keep things moving.
