I know we're not even halfway through this tourney, but I was thinking about what we should do next. Well, supervillains, I guess that's obvious, but after that?
I was thinking comic book artists would be a ton of fun. I'd love the opportunity to talk up my favorites, and blast the ones I find overrated.

Personally, I'd like to see something verysimilar to what we're doing now, only the basis for voting would be "who'd win in a fight" rather than "who do you like better". I think the arguments thus far have stayed on track for the most part and avoided the who'd win question, but there are some interesting matchups that could be a lot of fun to argue out.
We could even leave it open so that people don't have to pick 8 DC and 8 Marvel, but just 16 total from either company. That would make it a lot easier for people who only follow one brand while still keeping it mainstream enough that most people will likely recognize all the characters involved.
Yeah, I'd defintiely love to see us all geek-out-to-the-max and do a "who would win?" type of thread. We could even play it up with proponents for each side like the old WWWF Grudge match stuff. And for those of you who don't know what the WWWF is, check out the site here:
Other than the obvious villain tournament, I'd love to do a Not-So-Super Hero Showdown. Kind of the reverse of this one we're running where we'd pit the absolutely worst ideas for heroes ever up against each other. SuperPro would likely fit nicely into this group.

I'm happy to run (unless someone else wants to) another tourney's once this is wrapped. Unless they are ultra comicdork stuff. Those would require an ultra comicdork to run.
Keep discussing ideas...and once this one is closer to completion, we'll run a poll to vote on "what's next" based on the ideas out there.
And why not do this w/ a wrestling theme? That's supposedly the common denominator for everyone here. Lot's of runway and options with that. Grestest wrestler. Tag Team. Heel. etc.

the key word there is "SUPPOSEDLY." i don't want wrestling going anywhere near this game. at least not in my house of stupid! but feel free to adapt the game to wrestling and bring it to OO's games forum.

I'm good to go with the same format as the first time around. My only request would be that the brackets not be locked (i.e. set the first round up the same, but put the top seed against the lowest seed in subsequent rounds). In the current bracket, that would've set up Spidey vs. DD and Supes vs. Hulk in the second round. DD still would've been blown out of the water, but it might've set up a Spidey/Hulk semifinal instead of the Spidey/Supes we've got.
Lets put this another way. Instead of, "Who wants to run the Supervillain showdown?" think "If I were to run a showdown, what theme would I like to run?"
Personally, I'd love to run a Superhero-comic Artist Showdown. Lots of pretty picktchers. Then again, we have an actual comic-book artist right here in OpTard, so maybe he should have dibs on that one if he wants it.
Based on what people have already posted, I think thorfag would be an obvious choice for the "who would win in a fight" one, and Gator or Sal for the "Worst Superhero" one.
A couple of ideas just occurred to me. In the "Who Kicks Most Ass" Showdown, we could make Marvel and DC the two "leagues" as has already been suggested. But another option would be "Heroes" and "Villains." The first round would be all Hero v Villain, but after that we might see hero v hero, or heel v heel, or archenemy match-ups, all depending on who wins, and seeding.
And in the "Stupid" Showdown, maybe we should kill two lame-o's with one stone and include dumb villains (and supporting characters?)
Tex has said he'll run Supervillains if no-one else wants it, but I'm thinking this one might get a lot more obscure than the Superheroes one did, and a bigger geek might be more suited. If no-one's particularly keen on running it, maybe we shouldn't make it the second Showdown after all.

I'm more than fine running the villain showdown, think it would be fun, and also think that this is one of the few comic-related ones besides the one we're currently doing that would appeal to a non-geek (i.e. me). People have been exposed to enough villains in movies and cartoons to be able to at least get 4 or 5 down on each side... I mean there's Joker, Penguin, Green Goblin, Dr. Doom, Magneto, Lex Luthor, etc etc. There's enough to make this interesting and appeal to the non-dorks.
And given where some of the way earlier discussion went, this was the one that seemed to generate the most interest as an "up next" contender.
So with villains...we have (1) seemingly broad interest in doing it, (2) something that appeals to a broader cross-section than others, and (3) someone who's willing to run it.
Where I come from, this is a no brainer. I motion for villains and the #1 option from earlier post, with no re-seeding each round. All in favor say "Aye".
OK, if you're up for it. I am actually looking forward to talking about the awesomeness that is Deathstroke/Slade. Count me as an "aye."
If you run into anything outside of your comic book knowledge, you can always ask me or OpTard. Or our good friends "wiki" and "google" usually have the answers.
(Or you could enroll here:
Sorry. I used the phrase "comic book knowledge" and it made me think of the "greatest name for a comic book store ever.")

The spreadsheet stuff is really pretty simple, and the only time you're using it is the upfront nomination and seeding tallies. And from a time perspective, I guarantee you that many people playing in the contest are spending more time doing that than I am administering. Point being the timing aint much, esp since we've got the "how to" and general rules all laid out. Every few days post a new poll, three days later close it and declare a weiner.
