Our next batch of matchups features the #4's vs. the #5's, so technically these should be the closest round 1 bouts (although it didn't play out that way in the Superhero Showdown....).

Here we have DC's #4 Deathstroke vs. Marvel's #5 Galactus. Already much more has been said in favor of Deathstroke / against Galactus (Galactus is simply hungry.....), so if you're a Galactus fan better get busy typing.

I like Deathstroke. He's a complete badass, both in the comic book and in Toon Titans. However, I feel I have to make a case for the big man...


Galactus threatened to eat earth despite people living there. We're insignificant - it's not because he hates us, he just doesn't give a shit. It took the FF travelling through dimensions to find the Ultimate Nullifier, a weapon that DESTROYS THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE to get him to leave. And because Galactus' super-powerful errand-boy, Silver Surfer, decided that humans weren't that bad, he banished the guy to our shitty little planet, couldn't even the atmosphere.

i absolutely agree with sal and optard. his motivations are different from most antagonists, but that's a good thing. and if you want a purely villainous trait--like sal pointed out, he has a habit of casually ruining the lives of people who inconvenience him. surfer is the most famous example of this, but he kept rom from finding his home planet, too. galactus is awesome.

But he's up against slade! deathstroke the freaking terminator!

let me give you an example of why slade should win.

recently dick grayson (nightwing) decided to start a new team called the outsiders with his old pal roy harper (speedy). their raison detre was to be more proactive than other teams--find and stop the bad-guys before they can put their evil plans into action, instead of always just reacting. in pursuit of this, roy had a "secret source" of inside information on what the bad guys were up to. it was secret because he knew that dick wouldn't want to accept any favors from his old mentor batman. but dick's curiosity gets the better of him, so he looks into it and discovers that the source is...NOT batman, but slade impersonating batman.

so dick calls roy to let him know, and roy's all, "yeah, sorry i didn't tell you sooner, but i'm with batman right now." and dick's like, "that's not batman, get out of there RIGHT NOW!" and slade says something like "oh well, it couldn't last forever. guess i'll have to kill you now." and that's the cliffhanger till the next month. and it's a great cliffhanger 'cause even though roy's a great fighter and a tough guy, you know that if slade wants him dead, he's in serious trouble. much more so than if it had turned out to be joker or two-face or lex luthor or just about anybody else under the batman mask. hell, who else but slade could put on a batman suit and nobody would really question that it was him. deathstroke is the batman of villains.

I never heard of either of them. But reading through their wikis I found out that Deathstroke was once on Lois & Clark. I liked Lois & Clark. He gets my vote.

But Green Lantern, Hawkman, Flash, Black Canary, Zatana, Atom, Elongated Man, and Green Arrow. All down for the count in about 3 minutes. 8 JLers vs Deathstroke and Deathstroke destroys them. Only think that saved them (and kept Deathstroke from getting his hands on a GL ring) was an arrow through the one good eye.

Then later Black Canary ripped out that one good eye in Birds of Prey as the only way to beat him (AGAIN)... and he didn't go down this time.

In Nightwing, he stuck a kryptonite eye in the socket of his daughter (who had cut out her eye to be like daddy) in an effort to kill Superman.

And then he dropped a giant radiocative chemical bomb on Nightwing's city destroying it and contaminating the streets right after Nightwing had outsmarted him and managed to get the place safe.

And this was all in one year.

2) Man, I thought Deathstroke was down and out when it was 8-7; I really figured that anybody who was going to vote, already had by then. Whoo-hoo, we're still in this fight! And if Texas' kid has to break a tie, I know which bad guy has had a bigger impact on Saturday morning cartoons. Toon Titans' Slade is fucking bad-ass. Ron Perlman voices him.

Well folks - we have a first: a tie in one of our Showdowns.

Here are the tiebreaker rules as previously established in the rules for the Superhero Showdown.

Voting
Winners will be determined by majority vote, and in the event of ties, we will first extend voting another day, and if a winner is not determined, we will reset the poll and open it to all voting for 2 days. And if it is still a tie, I will ask my 6 year old who he likes better.

The only change to the above is my kiddo is now 7.

So....this poll will remain open another 24 hours - closing at 2 pm ET on Monday, Dec. 18. If the vote remains tied after that, I will launch a new poll where everyone is free to vote again. You can change your vote, vote the same...but the window will be 2 days. You snooze, you lose. If after that we're tied....I ask my kiddo who he likes better. I will not prompt him in any way, but I will answer any objective question he throws at me (so out of bounds is "who do YOU lke better, daddy?"). And I'm not sure if he even knows who either of these guys are...but I'm not asking him now.

So have at it....if you haven't voted yet....you have quite a lot of power. But please read this thread and the arguments for/against each of the candidates before casting your vote. There's a lot of emotion here!

1) Deathstroke can beat up the entire Justice League by himself. Not with laser rays or technology or magic or super strength. Just by kicking their asses in a straight up fight. Its already been proven. And he has years of fucking up the Teen Titans in the same fashion.

2) Galactus is an asexual freak who makes everyone who works for him an asexual freak. He removes their genetelia and even their nipples, turning them into Barbie/Ken dolls. Is that the man you want to vote for?

3) Deathstroke spent last year beating the crap out of the Justice League, nuking Nightwing's home town, posing as Batman to manipulate the Outsiders, and manipulating his daughter into cutting her own eye out, murdering folks, and plugging a kryptonite eye into the hollowed out socket to kill Superman. He had to make up for a few down years but he started off this whole run by taking a shotgun to Kid Flash's knee and blasting it damn near off crippling him.

4) If you want to vote for Galactus based on that whole "neuter" thing because you think that makes him more "villanious" remember this. Slade once manipulated a 15-year-old girl into joining the Titans only to betray them. He did so by fucking her rotten. Slade's totally a sexual predator too.

5) Galactus has never done any of these cool things. You know what he does? Eats planets. That's it. Actually eating the planets isn't even the bulk of the story. Most of the story is spent with him standing in front of a giant computer while the Fantastic Four fly around him for 4 comics trying to get his attention. He usually ignores them. Oh, and if you think "eating planets" is pretty villanious, remember this. You can talk him out of it. Its actually pretty easy. You just say "go eat that one instead" and he does. He's a big pussy.
