Bruce Timm did the character designs and much of the animation for the much-loved Batman: The Animated Series. He co-created the villainess Harley Quinn. He has also drawn a few comic book stories, such as Mad Love and "Two of a Kind," (pictured.)

Tom Mandrake was the artist for Batman in the mid-80s and co-created the villain Black Mask. He returned to provide art for a few storylines (such as "Grotesk," pictured) in the last few years.

One's very cartoony, one's not cartoony at all. So I don't think they're that similar. A lot of folks are very prejudiced about cartoony art--for (MKid) or against (Lucky)--so that alone would make the decision for them.

But if not, I can't tell you which to choose. I haven't decided yet, myself. They're both great. If neither of them really moves you, maybe you should abstain. In a little bit, I'll post some more of their art, maybe it'll sway you one way or another.

All right this is really off topic, and not really aimed at you, but I know you, and I don't know David Willis, or anyone else spreading the "whores whores whores" meme, so I'll ask you:

Yes, there are lots of prostitutes in Sin City. It's called "Sin City" for a reason. And a few prostitutes are depicted in Batman: Year One. I don't remember any prostitutes in Daredevil. Elektra certainly wasn't a prostitute. Martha Washington wasn't. Those are two of the strongest female characters in comics ever! Are there prostitutes in All Star? I haven't been following it that closely. But I was under the impression that his version of Black Canary was just a waitress before deciding to become a crimefighter.

"Whores, whores, whores!" . . . It's an all right punch line for a goofy web-comic . . . until you think about it for a second. But I can't imagine why it's caught on this way. I feel like these people only know Frank Miller from Sin City and just assume that everything he writes is exactly like that. Or they see that Dave Gibbons drew Martha Washington and they decide that "Frank Miller" must be a misprint, it must have actually been written by Moore.

All-Star hasn't had any prostitutes in it as far as I can remember. Just Batman chuckling to himself how he threw a pimp through a window. Selina Kyle ran an escort agency in DKR.
There were Prostitutes in Miller's "Man Without Fear" origin mini for Daredevil. Young matt goes after the last of his dad's killers and he has to go into a brothel to get him, and the prostitutes attack him, before he accidentally knocks one of them out the window. The later gets retconned into being a young Typhoid Mary.
I think it's just someone noticing a trend in Miller's most famous work. It probably wouldn't be so pronounced if Sin City wasn't made into a successfull movie.

I'm still very torn. I'm leaning towards Mandrake, but I'm not willing to tie it up. If Mandrake can't take it without the benefit of a coin toss, Timm deserves to advance.

In other words, Lucky, if you can dig up a vote to tie it up, I'll give Mandrake the lead. Otherwise, I'm going to abstain.

Yeah, gotta say, I've never been a great fan of the cartoony look. It's Mandrake for me.

Timm's really great, but in this case I agree with you. I like Mandrake a little more. Mandrake goes on to face Aparo in round two.
