Jim Aparo drew one of the Batman titles from 1971 all the way to 1992. He co-created the villain KGBeast. (I know, it's a stretch.) "A Lonely Place of Dying," featuring the death of the second Robin, is among the prominent storylines he drew during his tenure. His style of drawing Batman may be one of the most iconic, recognizable takes on the character.

Andy Kubert is the son of the legendary war-comics artist Joe Kubert. He also draws Batman. [/bias] He co-created Batman's son Damian. (Yes, Batman has a son with Talia now.) His noteworthy Batman assignments include Batman vs. Predator, the aforementioned "Batman & Son," and Batman #666, (pictured.)

Aparo also sucks for one simple reason...he didn't draw Thomas Wayne with a mustache. It's an essential design aspect! I BARELY let Christopher Nolan get away with it, but I'm not letting a comics artist, dammit!

I haven't read either of the stories, all I know about these "Son of the Bat" characters is what I learned doing the research for this Showdown. But I would say that Ibn al Xu'ffasch and Damian are not the same character. All they have in common are that they are both sons of Batman and Talia in different continuities.

But Ibn al Xu'ffasch is from an alternate future where Bruce Wayne and Talia got married and were a happy couple for a while, but Talia tells Bruce that she miscarried but actually gives the kid up for adoption and he doesn't show up in Batman's life until he's a grown-up.

Whereas Damian is Batman and Talia's son from a one-night stand, Batman never knew she was pregnant, Talia and the League of Assassins raise him, and then he shows up on Batman's doorstep one day, still a little kid. All of this really being in continuity.

More difference than just a name change, I'd say. It takes a lot of balls to make that big of a change in the real Batman that you have to live with in every issue afterwards, as opposed to some what-if Elseworlds type story. I definitely want to pick up "Batman & Son" when I get around to it. Sounds cool.
