Unquestionably the two biggest stars of the 80’s. One a charismatic showman. In Vince McMahon’s freak show circus. The other a charismatic showman in Jim Crockett’s wrestling-oriented NWA. While they finally met in the ring in the early 90’s, the matches were a bit of a letdown. They meet again here in the Sweet 16. Can the Hulkster say his prayers, take his vitamins, and believe in himself enough to knock off the overall top seed in the tournament? Or will the 24 inch pythons come to a screeching halt on SpaceMmountain?

I hate Hogan, but Lucky's convinced me in another thread. Hogan MADE two companies. His in-ring may suck, his promos for the most part are absolute garbage, he held so many people back just to keep his power but Hogan's drawing power and charisma/persona are so light years ahead of anyone else that I'm voting for him.

Who else can honestly say they've been the biggest face in the industry and then re-invent themselves almost 20 years later to become the biggest heel in the industry.

Flair had heel/face turns. It wasn't like Hogan. Hogan was THE face of the 80s and then he went to WCW and turned heel. No heel turn could ever be that impactful. EVER.

And Flair was never THE face of a company. During the 80's NWA, it was Rhodes, during the 90's WCW, it was Sting and after that Flair became a midcarder. Hell, I can't remember a significant Flair face singles run until he became a legend type face. Even during the nWo days, Flair and The Horseman played the middle for the most part.

Look, I love Flair as the best heel the buisness has ever seen. And I love him as the leader of the best stable to ever grace a wrestling ring. And he can work and talk circles around Hogan...but TOMMY'S A DAMN HYPOCRITE...because if Andre wins cause he's Andre and he drew all over the world, the most recognizable wrestler in the history of wrestling has to win over someone who 75% of the country never knew until he was a shell of his former self.

I mean you could use the term that way, but I don't think that's what people mean when they talk about the face of the company.

It doesn't mean "face" like "babyface," but "face" like a metaphor: in the same sense that the face is the part of the body by which we recognize a person, the "face" of the company is the wrestler by which we recognize which show we're watching.

Flair was that guy for NWA in the 80s just as much as Hogan was for the WWF. And he continued to be that guy for WCW until Hogan joined up.

Hogan was the "face" of WCW as the heel leader of NWO just as Flair had been the face of NWA as the heel leader of the Horsemen.

Admittedly Hogan has the edge on him in this aspect, because he was the face of two different companies in two different decades as both a face and a heel.

But Flair entertains me more.

He can make himself bleed by just concentrating hard. Can Hogan do that?

Do not confuse most recognizable wrestler with BEST wrestler. Under that theory, Anna Kournakova would've been the best tennis layer in the world for 4 or 5 years.*

Flair made Sting a star. Made Luger a star. Made Windham a star. Helped resurrect the careers of Ricky Steamboat and Terry Funk. Was the front man of the stable that EVERY stable ever since has been compared. Likely had more **** matches in 16 months in the WWF than hogan did his entire career. Helped turn Bret Hart into a legit main eventer. Cleanly put over a green Paul Wight on Nitro for the title to get him over. Helped guys like Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko get exposure by aligning them beside him with the Horsemen.

Sure Hogan put asses in seats and made movies and all that, but other than his undeniable charisma and size, all of that was GIVEN to him. Other than mainstream exposure, tell me how Hogan has brought more to professional wrestling than Ric Flair.
