I went with Byrnie and Sop. I appreciate the attempt at a comedy match Gator, but I hate the McMahons being used as a wrestlers, throwing Bichoff and Russo into that match as well, was enough to lose my vote. I get the concept you went for with that match, but I hate the participants (as on screen performers, I have no personal beef with em) so much I can't vote for it.

No harm. I knew that match in particular might rub some the wrong way. I clearly focused my 10-man attention on the WarGames match.

What I'm trying to figure out though, is - that people here really only like wrestling from WWE and WCW pre- 2000 or something?

Cause I don't know about you, but I'd rather see Liger and Dragon tear shit down or Cruisers in a cage go bezerk then Cena and Ahmed Johnson or Iron Shiek vs Honkey Tonk man.

I'm really just curious what people don't like - the matches, or the people, because I'd think that almost everyone I drafted would be known. They all wrestled in ECW, WCW, FMW, ROH and TNA.

Admittedly FMW (Fronteir Martial Arts Wrestling) may be a little obscure but lord is it awesome.

So please, since I don't have my finger on the "pulse" of this group, tell me. Is Hulk Hogan 80's style wrestling more favored then the more athletic wrestling of 95 ECW on... ?

I've never seen a second of ECW, FMW, or ROH. I caught some of the nWo WCW and watched it somewhat regularly through the Invasion angle, but that's the extent of my exposure there. I've tried to watch TNA a few times over the past few years, but it's never been able to hook me.

For me, it's just what I know. I don't have the time or a great enough interest to search for and watch indy wrestling, so on the very rare occasions that I bother to turn it on at all, I watch the company I grew up watching.

For the purposes of these showdowns, I can envision Cena vs Ahmed Johnson or Iron Sheik vs HTM. I've seen them wrestle. I've seen them promo. I know what they're about.

I've never seen Tiger Mask or the Ice Cream guys or Mikey Whipwreck do what they do, so the names mean nothing to me.

As far as the guys that you tend to draft, Byrnie, it's a style that's never interested me. I'd rather watch the Ultimate Warrior hyperactively run into people and knock them over or Honky Tonk Man do a sunset flip than watch one blood-soaked guy hit another blood-soaked guy with a barbed wire baseball bat or guys like RVD and Sabu throw their bodies around and injure themselves and their opponents.

Some people like it, and that's fine, but it's just not for me.

To paraphrase myself in an OO voting thread.. "I'm old. I don't like Hardcore wrestling or anyone who made their name doing it. I've never seen/don't watch indie & international wrestling.....

So as good as Ultimo / Jushin Liger would be (VERY Good) I cant, just cant vote for it.

To answer your question, yes, alot of this board skews older in terms of wrestling (Go back and look at Mikey & AA's cards, SG and I as well.) But there are plenty who really dig current and indie guys (Eric, Dev, Eco & Doug come to mind)

Being 34 years old and counting my years watching wrestling by the # of WrestleMania, I saw nearly all of the eras we tend to pull from in real time.

I remember watching Snuka vs. Muraco with the famous cage dive that Mick Foley says made him decide to become a wrestler. I remember seeing Cactus Jack Manson wrestle for my local indy in Virginia in like 1990. I remember attending indy wrestling in the late 80's and early 90's, and thinking it was the best wrestling ever. I watched the Mid-Atlantic inspired NWA religiously. Thanks to us finally getting cable, I watched the old UWF before it was folded into the NWA. World Class and the AWA on ESPN was good stuff, although World Class was light years better than the AWA (and almost anything else, too). I was lucky enough to get to a live ECW show, and I've followed ROH since year 3. Of course there's the WWE, WCW & TNA.

Much of what I saw was innovative. Hardcore wrestling isn't innovative. It substitutes blood and shock value for creativity and storytelling. Hardcore elements have a place within good storytelling and athleticism. But it's worthless without them.

ECW was great, and is likely even better when we view it through the rose colored glasses of hindsight. But it doesn't hold a candle to World Class or the UWF.
