Would've preferred Norton, sure. But as far as an alternative goes, Ruffalo gets a solid pass from me for now. Far worse actors they could've gone with.
Great trailer, even if they clearly haven't got that much to show yet, and the beginning of it was a bit Transformersy...
To the point the reused some score as temp track even. And if feels like Bay did the beginning.
It would amuse me if next year Byrne did a women's fed or Texas fed. I'd just like to see how he tries to make it a dark, demonic, ECW homage led by James Mitchell or Raven. -- Lucky, 2009
see. i told you byrne was the way to go here. like i said, he's a big dork. -- Ziggy, 2009
Also of note, did anybody else notice Thor about to whack Cap with Mjolnir? In-fighting or training scene?
Probably "initial encounter misunderstanding" fisticuffs, like maybe he's just got back to earth and misinterprets the other Avengers as threats. Or maybe Loki's making him see enemies instead of friends.
I was thoroughly satisfied with the movie. Any problems I had were nitpicky things that did not impact my enjoyment. I was impressed that Whedon was able to avoid completely shortchanging any one member of the team. As usual the easter egg was good stuff too.
Great action, and excellent humor, even if you don't care for comics, I still say give this one a shot. It's a really fun popcorn flick.

GO SEE THIS MOVIE! Other than one minor nitpick I have, it's hands down the best comic book movie ever made. It has everything you'd expect from a Joss Whedon production AND everything you'd expect from a Marvel movie

I thought Ruffalo did very well in his role, but I am a huge Edward Norton fan and would have loved to have seen him in this. That's the only thing I had a (very very very minor) problem with.

This. I still enjoyed it - and as a non-fanboy, that's exactly what Marvel is looking for.

Such a fun fun fun movie. As mentioned, I think it was done incredibly well, especially in making each character seem as valuable as the other. For me, characters like Cap, Hawkeye, and Black Widow always seemed a bit out of place in the "power hierarchy", but they didn't feel out of place in the least. I especially love how they handled Cap by pushing his tactical leadership (loved Iron Man deferring the group strategy at the end battle to him), "brute force investigation" to find out what SHEILD was up to, and the vibranium shield bouncing Mjolnir away.
Very nice little extra scene at the end, too, and it has me excited thinking we might get to see the artifact that was rumored to have originally been in Odin's vault come into play in the next movie. (***trying to keep it non-spoilery for a bit***)
It was quite an excellent movie, even beyond the fact that only behind The Dark Knight, I believe it's the second best superhero movie ever made. Definitely enough in the movie to attract the non-comic geeks like us. Mrs. The Demko loved the movie, and she HATES comic books. So overall, I think Marvel and Disney have hit upon the absolute perfect marketing strategy. Make solid individual character movies (could there have been a better casting choice in the last 10 years than RDJ as Tony Stark?), and then put them all together, not neglecting any of the characters seriously, and getting a top-notch director to put it all together.
If Joss Whedon somehow bows out of Avengers 2, I will be severely disappointed. The nice thing is, he can basically have them sign a blank check for him to come back again. I'm hoping that's incentive enough to do it all over again, especially considering how many side projects he's continue to juggle in the background. I have no idea how that man can operate on this many things at the same time.
May I say that despite liking Edward Norton's take on Banner, that Mark Ruffalo absolutely NAILED it? I think Ruffalo's Banner was pitch perfect, and he totally got into the character's brain, I would say *ALMOST* as much as Ledger got into the Joker's brain. Though definitely a more lighthearted take on the character, overall, I really felt like Ruffalo was the star player here.
And lastly, the incidental characters - so glad they made mention of Jane Foster being protected. I do kinda wish they'd made the same effort to mention Betty Ross. Maria Hill was portrayed quite well by Ms. Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), though I always imagined Hill a bit more exotic and not quite so... vanilla. Coulson was great, as always. Sam L. struck a great balance between Nick Fury, and Nick Fury doing his Sam L impression (IS THE SUN IN THE SKY?!) And I thought Johanssen and Renner really had a chance to shine, and took advantage of it. Especially BW's 'interrogation scene' toward the beginning of the movie.
Overall, the only nitpick I had was the first credits scene, where they introduced the possible next villain. REALLY?! You go from Loki/Chitauri to that? Wasn't there any sort of middle-ground bad guy they could have gone with? It's like escalating from a small campfire to burning down the entire Eastern seaboard. There's gotta be another step up from there. Granted, they may surprise us, and give that guy henchmen, but it just seemed like a huge step to take in the course of one movie.
