While you guys are running your silly network sitcoms and law/medicine dramas, my network is going to show movies starring Arnold Scwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, John Claude Van Damme, Harrison Ford, Chuck Norris, Jet Li, Bruce Lee, Chow Yun-Fat and Clint Eastwood every night of the week.
And Sunday nights will be Kung Fu Theater.
SJN - The Sweet Jesus Network presents to you Movies For Guys Who Like Movies.
It would amuse me if next year Byrne did a women's fed or Texas fed. I'd just like to see how he tries to make it a dark, demonic, ECW homage led by James Mitchell or Raven. -- Lucky, 2009
see. i told you byrne was the way to go here. like i said, he's a big dork. -- Ziggy, 2009
I don't like the idea of adding "specials" into the lineups. It makes sense if we're gonna tweak things from week to week, but as it stands it seems like we're doing a one-shot lineup and that's it. Right? I think if we just made it so that your typical prime time dramas, comedies, etc are the only pool to pull from it would make things much simpler.

I didn't see this asked, so if it was sorry for the repeat. What is the rule regarding shows that were brought back later? For example if I draft Knight Rider, do I get both incarnations of the show, or do I only get one edition?
I'd assume you'd have to specify which one, or L&O would be a pick goldmine!

Well, the difference between the two is that L&O have specific spinoffs (Criminal Intent, Special Victims, Trial by Jury) while Knight Rider is just Knight Rider. But basically Byrne was right though. You have to specify which one you want; the campy 1980s Hasselhoff version or the pathetically shitty 2008 transformer version.
With regards to the specials, they won't matter for lineup purposes but I just thought it'd be a fun little thing to put on the end. It won't matter, but they are big shows and they could have a place. But if no one likes that, we could eliminate the supplemental aspect.
The showdowns will be on the 6 day a week, 8-11 portion of your network. The supps would have been extra, like managers.
If you want to do a supplemental with "specials" might I suggest making it a Saturday Draft? Since we're ignoring Saturday since it traditionally doesn't get normal programming I had considered suggesting doing a secondary draft to fill up Saturday with sports, specials, minis, movies, or shows. If you want to do that stuff just slotting Saturday in seems reasonable. But I never suggested the idea because I had it at the same time I was being told I was overthinking it and killing the fun. So I kept it to myself.
Or don't do either. If you can't find an image you like at either than don't force it. Just give me something you like and which will look good on the board.

I think I'm with Kid here. The supplemental seems unneccesary unless there is a big Stage 2 Stage 3 plan. IF we draft a lineup and vote.. miniseries and other supplementals seem a bit much.
Need a clarification on your 'Daily Shows'
I get that Daily shows are ineligible, but what about cable network shows that air irregularly. I'm thinking something like Animal Precinct. It isn't daily, but they dont have a regular timeslot, and are shown pretty randomly. (and for that matter, there are like 7 differet Animal Cops/Precints that seem to rotate intermittently.)
For the record I too would support just skipping it. I was just speaking the idea I had if people wanted to find room for it.
As it is if we get 24 people as Dev wants that's still a FUCK load of TV and I really can't imagine knowing what I want towards the end. So adding more isn't anything I'm thinking of.

yeah, that's a full 4 more people past the wrestler draft. Dev - has the rules been decided yet?

Yeah... cause I'm tired of reading the thread with no real teeth. I've seen a bunch of ideas kicked around, and I have no idea what we're doing. First thing I knew we were doing a 20 hour block of shows. now we got folks talking about 6 nights a week or some shit. I don't care how it's setup... just that it's setup.
Sunday to Friday, 8 to 11. Some kind of Saturday/special thing is being considered but it would be after the draft. Dev wants 24 people, and it looks like he has 18 at the moment. The start is being delayed until Demko gets home from his honeymoon.

Okay, seems like supplemental isn't very warranted so that's out and that means no Oscars, Tonys, Emmys, Super Bowl, World Series, etc.
Daily shows like Daily Show, Colbert, Letterman, Leno, General Hospital, etc are also out.
Non-primetime shows like Saturday Night Live, Mad TV, and other stuff are all out.
With regards to shows like American Idol and Dancing with the Stars that normally air twice in a given week anywhere from 30-120 minutes, I'm going to make an executive decision that 60 minutes is all you need for it. I think that would be fair.
It will be a 36 round draft that no one will come near needing all 36 rounds. We'll be drafting to fill 18 hours each. 24 people in the draft with 18 hours needed means we'll have to come up with 432 hours of programming combined. Which sounds like a lot, but then you realize there is 80 hours on network tv alone right now, not counting cable and cancelled shows and I think we'll be fine.
I have been planning on making a rules thread, but been busy with a few other obligations here. I should be able to get it up tomorrow at the latest and I'll make the draft order by Friday at the latest. First pick will be on the clock, let's say with the start of Raw on Monday so 9est. I think Demko is back Sunday, so that gives him time. 8 hour clock, and how many ever are in, I'll figure out the showdown aspect later. Right now there are 18 or 19 if Fish wants to join.
If that's okay with you guys. I'm calling dibs "Webster", though.
I only had 2 small suggestions. My feeling will not be hurt in ANY way if you shoot them down immediately, so feel free to mock me:
1) There are gonna be a fuckload of shows. Maybe drop back to M-F?
2) To lessen the drafting headaches, maybe when we draft it should be for a 60-minute period. For instance, one person could claim LOST, and the next could take Webster AND Diff'rent Strokes. This, of course, would eliminate longer shows like wrestling and such, but they really are a niche, anyway.
1) I worked it out Gator and it sounds like a lot but in reality it really isnt. At most, with 24 people involved we would need 432 hours of programming. Currently on TV right now is 80 hours. Getting to 432 will be easy enough.
2) Has been suggested and shot down. It was an idea early on but if you think Seinfeld > Lost then that's your call, you shouldn't be allowed to do a Seinfeld/Webster combo no matter how epically awesome it would be. This also allows for the draft of wrestling shows because everyone can draft at their own pace. It's not like everyone will be drafting 36 rounds; everyone will draft 18 hours and once you do that, the rest of your specific draft is over.
Yes you're in and no you shouldn't. Once the draft order is finalized, it's really bad manners to start "name-dropping" shows as well, so I know I've done it quite a lot here as I explained the rules, but I'm going to try and stop going forward. But if anyone has questions, please ask.

Forgive me for possibly name dropping but I just think it would be better to get a ruling on certain types of shows now rather then during the draft. There are two programs in particular that do appear on the networks lineups but fall into categories like Sports or Movies so I'm not sure what the ruling would be:
Monday Night Football Wonderful World of Disney (also every network seemed to have at one time or another a Movie Night, ie CBS Sunday Night Movie)
I say both of these should be off the table but I wanted clarification before I removed them from my lists.
