In one, Luthor puts together a team of super-villains to help him get his revenge. He makes the mistake of capturing Batman who proceeds to destroy them from within, despite being strung up in high tech manacles.

In another, Luthor and Brainiac have merged, and are about to destroy Earth, when Flash gets free from him and appears to flee. But when you're as fast as Flash and on a round planet like ours, running away and running toward aren't so different. By running around the planet, and hitting the bad guy on each pass, Flash can go faster than ever before (no need for doubling back!) and almost gets lost in the "speed force" in the process.

These are two of my favorites, but cool stuff abounds thoughout this series.

Where to begin....

Lyrics: "...and a CAR that just won't stop...." The wiki is wrong (or at least about the theme song that played in the cartoon - not sure if Sublime tweaked the lyrics). But then if you knew anything about HKP you would have caught that. Hong Kong Phooey had a kick ass car - he would hit a gong and it would turn into a boat, or helicoptor or other modes of transportation. Batman had to have a car...and a boat..and a plane....Bruce Fucking Gordon inventor couldn't invent himself a gong now could he? Nope - had to have multiple vehicles instead of one rocking one.

Crimefighting Credit: Spot saved the day UNBEKNOWNST to Hong Kong Phooey. Putting that in simple little words, Hong Kong didn't know that Spot in fact had saved the day and foiled the crime, and Hong Kong thought his actions were responsible, hence he took the credit.



Other cases for Hong Kong Phooey:

I already mentioned Scatman Crothers did the voice. Any big name people do voices for the main JLA folks (not the guys who showed up here and there)? Nope.

Aquaman was ultimately let in the JLA. Aquaman.

All the cool kids are voting for Hong Kong Phooey. Well, and Solly. JLA has the comicdorkfagboy crowd. We'll pick them last for dodgeball.


EDIT: And wondering who that other person to vote for Spectreman was? Me. Not from a bargaining perspective because my vote wasn't gonna change the outcome unless we have an onslaught of Japanese register here and vote in the next couple days. I did so because I failed to include Ultraman on my ballot and in hindsight should have, so this was my way of getting in a vote for Ultraman. But in so doing, I believe I will have spared Spectreman from the "zero or one vote" stigma. So there.

1. Cut me some slack. I'm operating on 4 hours of sleep and twice as many beers from business travel etc. The point is not "am I a comicdorkfagboy such that I have every comicperson and his alter ego memorized" - my brain cells - those that are surviving - are devoted to far more important things.
