I am at my folks house and don't have access to my hard drive. These are the only pictures of her I can find on the interwebs:







None of them feature the tat or her piercings, sorry. I'm sure she has her nose stud in in at least one of the photos, but the pic's are too small and low-res to see it.

Thanks for taking the hint--I love this story.

We had been together for about a year, and we had known since a couple of months into it that we were going to get married. It was just a matter of being broke all the time and needing a wedding dress and reception hall and rings and things. Then I discovered that a jewelry store would happily give a couple hundred dollars credit for a little rock to even a shiftless loser like me.

But I wanted to surprise her, and I knew it would be tough. She knew I was planning to propose, and we didn't go out to fancy joints on a regular basis, so if I suddenly took her on some super-romantic date, or started to get down on one knee, the jig would be up.

So the day that I got the rock, I decided to spring it on her without any big build-up. It was a snowy winter day, and I drove over to pick her up from her job at the local dirt mall. I was in a good mood, and while we were walking back to the car I started talking about how beautiful the falling snow was, but she was in a bad mood from work and wasn't having any of it. When we got to the car, I told her that her boots had come unlaced, and to wait up and I would fix them. I got down on one knee and she still had no suspicion of what I was up to.

Then I got the ring box out of my pocket and opened it and asked her to marry me. She had been expecting it sometime, but it's always a shock when it's now. She started crying and said yes, with the snow falling all around us. And that's my favorite memory in my whole life.

At first, I read "where's the line?" in the sense of "so where do I get in line?" Ha. I get it now, "where's the kind of line that you draw."

First let me answer the implied question that this is meant to be an example of: What would I do if she wanted to do something in bed that I wasn't into. It's assumed that because some multi-person scene that might squick you is theoretically allowed by an open relationship, that this is more of a problem for an open relationship. But I think that this is less of a problem in an open relationship. If there's something that one of us wants to do in bed that the other is really just not cool with, there's none of that implication of "well, I promised not to have sex with anybody else, so if you're not meeting my needs in the bedroom, we should break it off so I can find someone who will." Instead, it's "I haven't got a ring around your nose, if you want something I can't give you, you're free to try to find someone who will, on the side."

So in this example, hypothetically, IF she really wanted two guys at once, and IF I really didn't want to be involved in that, I'd just say "sure hon, go find two guys, not my thing."

Now NOT hypothetically, I don't think that two guys at once is anything she's particularly interested in. But if she were, or if some fling of mine wanted to do that, I think I'd be cool with it as long as the "tag team" part were taken pretty literally. As in one at a time, or one on each end. As little guy-guy touching as possible, beyond a manly handshake.

I'm still an atavistic troglodyte in a few little ways.

She has made out with and had sex with other girls. She's never actually had a girlfriend, though, I don't believe. So she's not a 3 on the Kinsey scale. Not sure if you'd call her a 1 or a 2.

Oh, you have no idea how much I look forward to and hope for that. Oddly, she and I have each been involved in a two-girl one-guy scene at some point, just not together. Unless you count sharing a lap dance.

I've been thining about this, but I'm still not sure.

I mean the ending of Blade Runner really sucks the wind out of the whole film, but the director knew that, and there's already a better alternate ending in the director's cut. (Which I still haven't gotten around to watching, I should really check that out sometime.)

Then there's the end of Star Wars III. Overall, I'd say that it's the best of the prequels, but the "Do Not Want" part at the end really kills it. I wouldn't necessarily change what happens, just have them keep doing takes until they managed to get across devestation instead of cheesiness.

Speaking of prequels, I'd love a jar-jar-lite version of Star Wars I. I really liked that movie except for all of the lame attempts at potty humor.

There are probably better answers to this question, but nothing else has come to mind.

Just a quick question, I know I'm late to this party but are you sure you want to go to basic? There are other options out there. They are longer but I think it would be more worth it to you. ROTC would be one option. The Army would pay for your graduate school while you pretty much just have to take the ROTC MS I - MS IV classes. I don't know how you feel about it but if you wanted to be a JAG officer you could pretty much have law school paid for and you'd get to stay home and be with your family. I went through basic. It was cool but for someone of your education and obvious desire to be an officer I think there are other options. The age thing may be the only hangup but I'd look into ROTC if you still can. I can put you in contact with a fellow officer who works at the U of MN ROTC department. He could give you much better information and maybe give you another option if you'd like it. If not, good luck in BCT and let me know what you branch. I'm a medical officer now but I know people up in Washington at branch headquarters that I can put you in contact with to maybe hook you with a nice post. Further along, if you get any choice at all opt to go overseas right off the bat. Germany, UK, or Japan is what I recommend. If you have to stay stateside I'd say Fort Carson, CO, Fort Lee or Fort Eustis, VA, or Fort Sam Houston, TX would be the "nicest" bases along with Fort Huachuca, AZ, and Presdio Monterrey, CA but unless you are MI or in linguistics you aren't going there. Of course, if you need any other info I'd be happy to pass along a non-recruiters view on things. I've been in 10 years now so whatever you need I can help with or put you in contact with the right person. Good luck. By the way, I hope they gave you E-4 for basic. You should be getting paid at E-4 rate, because of your BA, during basic. Make sure you get all the pay you can during BCT. Again, let me know if there's anything I can help with.

Don't worry about being late, I thought this whole thing was really fun and would be happy to continue answering questions as long as people have them. As long as it isn't detracting from the current spotlight... And Blackdragon seems to be getting plenty of questions. (More than he's been able to keep up with...)

I did not know that you could do ROTC in grad school. That's an awesome suggestion. If I had known that earlier on I would have given the possibility some serious consideration. But I think that in the end I would have decided against it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking forward to boot camp. It's going to be a bitch, no question. But in a few months I'll be through with OCS, and bringing in O1 pay. Whereas grad school, even if the ROTC financial aid package is pretty generous, would still be two more years of scrimping that my whole clan has gotten damn tired of.

Besides, as painful and unpleasant as BCT is bound to be, it will give me some common ground with the men and women I'm going to be expected to lead, something the ratzi's and ring-bangers won't have.

Now, on the other hand, if the Army decides that the thing they really need from me requires me to get a bit more education first, and so they want to send me to Monterey, well, awesome. One of the guys who wrote me a recommendation letter is an airline pilot who's a former USNR officer, and the Navy sent him to NPS for a class once, and he said that it's just about the greatest billet you could possibly get. I mean, come on, Monterey. Plus your job is to learn, so you get full-time pay while also earning grad school credits. Sounds a great deal like heaven to me.

Just about everybody I meet in the Army says "try to get Germany." I'm definitely interested in an overseas post at some point. Then again, my first priority is getting a cool job. If the interesting work is being done in Missouri, so be it.

And, yep, my E4 rank and pay is all set up for day one. I was surprised by that when I heard it. I mean, I knew that a degree meant a higher rank in the military, but I assumed that didn't start till after boot, till my recruiter straightened me out. I'll be a "Specialist" the moment I step off the bus, despite--for the Army's intents and purposes--knowing basically nothing.

Anyway, thanks a ton Army. I'll let you know if there's anything you might be able to help me out with.

By the way, are you still in St. Louis Park? Cause I just moved my bedroll from my Mom's floor in bumfuck Northern MN to my dad-in-law's floor in your old stomping grounds of StLP. I completely agree with you in regards to officers attending BCT. Being that I'm a medical officer I don't have any soliders other than I work with some medics, but I don't have a platoon or a company of course and it certainly useful then when you are platoon leader or a or a CO. Soldiers pick up on that stuff so you will have the advantage in knowing what they went through. It will make you a better officer. You will end up having a blast in BCT. Reception and the first couple week of BCT sucked (well, they did back in 1999 at least) but it ends up kind of fun in some sick way. You'll end up in the best shape of your life too.

As far as the E-4 pay goes, that's as far as it goes. You don't wear any rank through BCT so as far as Drill Sergeants go you are "solider" or "private." They do know and will ask ranks and MOS so you will end up in a leadership role in basic I'd all but guarentee. The platoon guide (soldier assistant to the DS) for my basic training platoon was a E-4 who got his BA in something before going to BCT. The squad leaders were all E-3s with ROTC experience. Once they find out you are slotted straight for OCS after basic you will be the most spotlighted and singled out member of your platoon. However, there are perks that come with being PG and towards the end they cut you a ton of slack and treat you pretty nice actually, so just stick out the initial razzing and constant push-ups that will come with being an E-4 and OCS bound. Drill Sergeants are, in general, not fans of officers so be prepared for a ration of shit daily.

I do not live in St. Louis Park anymore. I bought a house in Mendota Heights in December and just got hitched in June so the wife and I live here in my home in the southeast metro. I live in St. Louis Park for just over year between the nursing school (when I got my commission) and before I left for Iraq. I came back from Iraq and pretty much bought a house. I got lucky, I was already intending on buying when I got back but then the market tanked so I ended up getting a steal on a house, older home of course, but in a pretty nice suburb. I'd still be up for a beer or something though. I like Park Tavern. I just run pretty busy through the week taking summer classes at Inver Hills and full time work along with Army shite. But I can try to make something work. Just PM me or something.

Can't say as I blame them, nobody likes training somebody just to jump over them and essentially become their own boss.

I imagine everybody will get their ration. If my ration's a little bigger, well... whatever doesn't kill me, etc. etc. cliche, cliche.
